On December 2nd, we had a Jess Franco event here in Venezia, with the screening of three movies and a round table. It was organized by the University of Ca' Foscari, in Venezia.

The movies were

EL SEXO ESTA LOCO

I made new Italian subtitles for the last two films and it was a great experience because I realized how subtle is the Franco writing and how badly made the current English subtitles.

I read in recent post over at www .cultmovieforumes.com that Mondo Macabro made the announcement on Twitter that they will be releasing "THE JESS FRANCO DE NESLE COLLECTION" in 2010! There will be three volumes, hopefully double features, of some essential Jess franco films! Titles haven't been announced, but there are some great possibilities: LORNA THE EXORCIST?...

This pdf flyer reveals that Francesco Cesari is organizing a Franco film festival and conference in Venice on December 2. Good going! I remember proposing something like that years ago. In my scenario, however, I was to be an invited participant. (Not that I have anything to say about Franco; I just like going to Venice.)

Has anyone ever compiled a list of all the dvd documentaries included as extras on Franco dvd releases. I love these things and sometimes I buy a disc just for the documentary. I would hate to miss one on a dvd that I didn't know about.

I watched a German dvd release of Franco's "SLAVES" the other night and despite ample shots of Lina and assorted other chicas, the film left me a bit cold and the story seemed rather superficial at best. Probably the first film of Jess' that I have watched in some time that has left me feeling this way. A few years back I read something about a japanese Jess Franco 3 or 4 film box set. The film themselves were nothing special, films like VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD, FEMALE VAMPIRE and other titles already releases elsewhere, but I remember the cover was really ugly/funny: I believe the box was pink or red with just a big picture of the aged, toothless Franco grinning.

Didn't find anything on the box when I googled it and I can't find it on amazon.jp. Does anybody know more...

Does anyone know anything about the song that the gypsy bandits are heard singing round the fire at Howard Vernon's fortress? Was it a pop-song of the time?
It sounds familiar, but I just can't for the life of me place it. Even when a gunfight starts, the bandits apparently just keep on singing!

I've been listening many times to the score Sexadelic Dance Party from Manfred Hubler und Siegfried Schwab and I must say that I'm impressed. I actually compared the US English, European English, and Spanish tracks of LUST FOR FRANKENSTEIN (LADY FRANKENSTEIN) and I noticed that the European and Spanish versions do not have the male narration at the beginning filling us in on Franco's version of the Frankenstein story. Instead, the film opens (and closes) with Lina Romay's familiar narration "Last night I dreamed I was at Manderly" (the subtitles for the Spanish version mis-translate it as Manderlin).

I'm hoping one of the experts here can tell me if there is anything special or unique (footage wise) about the Dutch Filmworks Extreme DVD of Franco's EXORCISM (DEMONIAC on the cover). I have an opportunity to purchase this disc, but I don't want to bother if it is just like the U.S. EXORCISM DVD from Synapse. Does anyone know what the differences are, if any?
