How were krimi received by German critics?

Yes, another question! Anybody know how krimi were reviewed in Germany at their time of original release? Did critics love or loathe them?!

Two questions:

1) I am writing a piece on how the krimi (amongst other types of horror and thriller films) helped shape the slasher subgenre. I have already seen a number of krimi that fit the bodycount vibe and have several slasher aspects (POV, dead body every fifteen minutes, whodunit etc), such as The Stangler of Blackmoor castle, Room 13, Dead Eyes of London, The Excutioners, and, especially, Phantom of Soho. Any others that particularly spring to mind?

I am working on a project on horror movies that briefly touches on the Krimi. However, I would like to give the Krimi the attention it deserves, and I am looking for sources for eye-popping Krimi artwork. Have had a brief scout over at Ebay.de, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a book that collects this artwork together? Or any other good sources of classic hi-res Krimi images. Thanks!

Late 50's German film starring Wolfgang Priess, Werner Peters and Gert Frobe. A woman is murdered and her son is kidnapped to prevent him from going to the police. But he needs heart medication and is causing the gang problems. Anybody ever see this film before? I've not seen it but it has a great cast. Supposedly it is out on Region 1 but it keeps getting skipped over in my queue.

Hi. I just bought this, The Masterworks of the German Horror Cinema, at a used shop. It was $6.98. It looks like a nice set with 2 discs, from Elite Entertainment. It has The Golem, Nosferatu, and the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Mirek, did you do the liner notes in this?

Anyone know of a reliable US-side retailer of imported soundtracks? I just spent a hideously drawn out weekend trying to order KRIMINALFILM MUSIC v. 4 from one online source, largely because it contains a fair amount of the music from the CCC MABUSEs. After spending the entire morning having problems with the paysite, I finally got my order placed for this and several other titles -- only to be advised yesterday that they can't restock the title as it's out of release.

I see at Amazon.de that some of the sets are now rather "affordable" - at least compared to past prices via Xploited. Whether it's due to the economy & weak currency values, I'd love to have some $ right now to get these myself. But I can't.

Strangler Of The Tower...worth it?

Has anyone seen STRANGLER OF THE TOWER? Sounds like it has potential, but being a non-Rialto/CCC Krimi-type movie, I'm a hair hesitant.

I've only ever seen the Alpha dvd of DAS PHANTOM VON SOHO, but I now have the German dvd, and was happily surprised to see that it, like the Rialto Krimis, has the title sequence in color! Rather garish, too -- certainly reminiscent of the covers from pulp novels! Not quite as creatively done titles, but still adds another element to the Krimis.
