I love the way the actress in the topless scene has her hair unnaturally flipped around to completely cover her face. Could they have made it any more obvious that a body double was being used?

The drop shadow looks sort of like a black stencil, and it actually moves around (as if blown by air) behind the white credits. But why is this effect present on Raro's DVD but not on Sinister's print? Maybe it's something that happened in the disc mastering? Odd.

I think Sinister's old VHS of THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH may have been duped from a recording of a UK TV showing. It never had a video release in Britain, but it played theatrically, was available for rental on Super 8 (the complete version!) and was shown letterboxed on TV. My friend Alan Upchurch taped it when he visiting London in the '80s. He was often in touch with the people from Sinister, so it's conceivable that he supplied them with a copy.

I compared the Raro disc to an old VHS from Sinister. The music is the same pitch on both transfers, which leads me to believe the tape also originates from a PAL source. At 94m11s, Sinister's tape runs a bit longer than the Raro disc, which is 93m40s. Was LONG HAIR OF DEATH ever released theatrically in the US? There are US posters and lobbies for NIGHTMARE CASTLE, CASTLE OF BLOOD and TERROR CREATURES FROM THE GRAVE, but I've never seen any for LONG HAIR. I'm thinking...

Regarding the Mario Bava x-ray glasses - Barbara will tell you that she wasn't that naive to have believed such a story. But, you never can tell.

As far as Margheriti, she tells me she adored working with him. That his passion drove her performances. She loved that he yelled and screamed all over the sets.

I have never asked her about the tit scene. I'm supposed to call her this weekend. I'll make a note to ask her about it. Should make for an interesting call.

Personally I think it was probably just another case of them spicing it up to attract foreign sales. The original Italian version would have been without, obvously.

I read something (I think on Wikipedia, which can be about as informative as a Bazooka Joe cartoon but whatever) that at one point during the filming of MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO Ms. Steele refused to leave her trailer (or maybe it was a tent?) after hearing a rumor that Mario Bava was secretly using a "special lens" that worked like a pair of X-Ray glasses that would render her clothing transparent.

It's also interesting to consider that if I know my Margheriti chronology right,...

This shot was included in - what believe was the first - UK telecast of the film on BBC2 in 1988. My friend Alan Upchurch was visiting London at the time and told me he'd never seen the "tit flash" before!

Ya it does look like an insert, and it also looks as though there was more of the shot that had been removed. Though as you point out the face is obscured so it's difficult to know exactly what's up, though I was startled...
