Well I went ahead and did it as I order up some grey market DVD-Rs of some Universal Horror classic flicks (including Paramount titles they own) that I've been itching to see for many years. If the clowns at Universal ever get a clue and start issuing those old and missing Horror films again then I will gladly buy them if I'm still interested in them when they do so.

Yep, I don't blame people for going the"unofficial route" in obtaining whatever films they want. If Universal would rather this be the case, then they've only shot themselves in the foot.

Trying to be positive though, just because we're not getting any further releases in 2008, this need not mean that Universal has abandoned theese old films FOREVER. If you think about it, it hasn't even been a whole year yet that we got HORROR ARCHIVES VOL. 1...

My collection of DVD's began years ago with the purchase of the Universal FRANKENSTEIN (1931). I saw it at a Circuit City store and had to have it. I didn't even have a DVD player. For six months I kept the DVD without being able to view it. BUT I HAD TO OWN IT!

Now that is a FAN-atic...

Actually, it doesn't cost much to get those original double-feature Uni monsters dvds -- they re-released them last Fall, I think it was. Should be able to get them everywhere online, and in some stores too. HOUSE OF DRACULA, however, never made it to the double-feature line -- only in the Legacy sets I think. That, and the Invisible Man "sequels", the Creature sequels and maybe one other film.

That's a shame. Abandoning their original bread & butter for modern sh!t. I'm sure they're more interested in the whole Blu-ray crap too. Perhaps something will change and they'll offer custom downloads or dvds, as Sony or some other company had mentioned a couple of months ago. That's a real shame, since there's so many others left to release. Never seen THE MAD GHOUL...

Jim Clatterbaugh of MONSTERS FROM THE VAULT spoke to a Universal rep and was told that Universal is NOT planning any more releases from its Classic Horror vault (except for a special edition of THE MUMMY). Universal is already working on its 2009 schedule, so things don't look promising for next year, either. Worse, though not surprising to me, the rep admitted that there's little profit these days in releasing classic niche films. Will we ever see the other two "Jungle...
