Jungle Captive and Jungle Woman |

Here's two titles that Universal needs to get off their collective asses and release for heaven's sake! Jungle Captive and sequel Jungle Woman. I was foraging through a box of my old videos and pulled these two out with the thought of DVD-R-ing them. Nice artwork on the boxes too. I suppose I'll scan these like I did my Naschy covers. Why aren't these out on DVD? They rock, even if they are both very brisk films at around 65 minutes each.

Don't forget the first title in the trilogy, CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN. BTW, I believe JUNGLE WOMAN is the second in the series, then, lastly, comes JUNGLE CAPTIVE. I bet Universal will release these next year.

Well that's a new one on me, Mirek. I thought maybe Jungle Cative was a re-titling of Captive Wild Woman, which means I have never even seen the original! Wasn't CWW part of that Universal collection released a few years prior to this most recent release from 2 years ago with the green covers? The one's with the old poster art on the front. I had most of these but not all. I made sure to buy up all the recent issues. No CWW however.

I think the vhs came out on the same run as the Man Made Monster vhs. I kept all of my ads from the vhs, but don't have them here. I got this for 5 bucks new from the music store I worked at for 4 years.

Quote:Hombre Lobo this probably the best Universal Horror film yet to be issued on DVD and I been itching to see this film for awhile so I ordered a brand new VHS tape from a third party seller on Amazon just last week to satisfy my craving till one of the suits at Universal gets a clue an issues this great film on DVD already. |

Well, we'll be getting both CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN (underrated, IMO) and MAN MADE MONSTER (one of the best!) in the upcoming Universal Horror Classics set.
As for the sequels... I think JUNGLE WOMAN is the weakest, but THE JUNGLE CAPTIVE is a lot of good mad doctor/monster fun. ----------------------

Quote:I strongly agree can't believe many Universal Horror fans belittle this film and its star the lovely Acquanetta sure her acting wasn't her strong point but she was one of the 1940's best eye candy. |

Just watched a scene from CWW where she gets pissed and starts tearing up a room in super short shorts. Damn.

I have always enjoyed this trilogy and am especially impressed with the very tight continuity.
The three films work very much like DRACULA/DRACULA'S DAUGHTER or FRANKENSTEIN/THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN in that they could be watched in one sitting as one long film. Odd at that point Universal's continuity was getting a bit sloppy but not with Paula. I would have preferred if they had cast Anne Nagel or Louise Albritton---or better still Lorna Gray as Paula but one takes what one gets.... |

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the name Acquanetta...I keep thinking of my grandma and her hairspray.
I'll be getting to this title later today, or tomorrow -- I'm doing a review of the Universal Horror set that came out yesterday, for Dvd Drive-In. Ben |

Re: Captive Wild Woman Trilogy

Having watch the first film in the series last fall via the Universal Classic Horror Set I barely got around to revisiting the second and third films courtesy of VHS tapes (last two from Universal I have hung on to as I'm waiting for them to be releases on DVD) and I have to say I love all three films in the series but the best for me is JUNGLE CAPTIVE but what a shame the lovely Acquanetta wasn't in this one even though the role of Ape Woman Paula is rather small here as the main focus of the film is on the two face Dr. Stendahl (Otto Kruger) and his henchman Moloch (Rondo Hatton) and this is what makes this film such a great treat for me as this stands out for me as one of Rondo's best roles.

Re: Captive Wild Woman Trilogy
Quote: This mistake can be due to the fact that one of the movies in the trilogy WAS re-titled, it was the third one (directed by Harold Young, with Vicky Lane replacing Acquanetta as Paula Dupree). This one was originally released by Universal in 1945 as JUNGLE CAPTIVE, but became WILD JUNGLE CAPTIVE for its 1952 re-release by Realart. The first in the trilogy, CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN (directed by Edward Dmytryk), was released in 1943, and the second one, JUNGLE WOMAN (dir. by Reginald LeBorg), the following year. |

I am so puzzled as to why these aren't all available from Universal. Very frustrating as they are all fun to watch and worthy of a trilogy release. I think I am with Luis on this one and really am fond of Jungle Captive. I only have this on vhs and have yet to try and transfer this to DVD-r. Come on Universal! Get off your asses and release these en total.

Yeah, I was surprised that the Captive Wild Woman series didn't turn up as a set. But I bet the other films will see the light of day--perhaps this Halloween.

Man I was just listening to Type O Negative's latest cd Dead Again on the ol' iPOD and there is a song entitled Halloween in Heaven. Sure got me in the mood for October. Yeah I'd love to see something like a Captive Wild Woman three pack come out around our favorite holiday of the year!

Re: Captive Wild Woman Trilogy
Quote:With CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN being issued in last years Universal Classic Horror Set I figure we sadly will never see the three films on their own set but their is hope that Universal will issue more Classic Horror Sets and add the two remaining films to these sets, perhaps the second film would be issue on this year's set and the third film next year. |

more sad for me is that I missed the boat on that Universal set and I must be honest when I say that I really was only interested in obtaining Captive Wild Woman and Man Made Monster.

I think you can still get the Universal set rather easily. I don't think it sold particularly well. Reason being, BB's I dropped by at had tons of copies for the longest time. Try checking their website...that should tell you some info. And even on Ebay I suspect it'll be reasonable. There's always Creepy Classics, too -- Ron probably has copies still too.
