I watched it yesterday and I can't say enough good things about the transfer. Redemption got their hands on the negative and really did an outstanding job cleaning this gem up. The Asphyx has never looked better. You even get an extended version that was released for the U.S. market. If you're a fan of this film, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. Yeah, it's that good.

According to IMDb - but they can be wrong - the original UK's running time was 99mins (exactly 98mns 44secs according to the BBFC), and it was cut to 83mins in the USA. I don't know where IMDB got their info from, but the blu-ray cover states, "Standard UK release version (86 min.) and extended US cut (98 min.). IMDB has been known to be wrong on occasion, especially with release dates. The US print is a combination of HD and SD put together so quality will vary.

Registered User Posts: 1416 Apr 25 12 1:30 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In view of the BBFC informations, the original British print had a length of 98mns 44secs when submitted for certificate, then was abridged by its distributor in UK, but left intact for its US release. This happened for some other British movies, so it's probably the logical explanation. After so many years, I don't remember which version was shown in the Festival of Horror and SF Films in Paris in the 1970's. A little bit of trivia, the white puppet which personified "the Asphyx" in the movie was given to the director of the Festival by the film's producer (or the director, I don't remember), and I saw it for years in his office, as he was also the director of the French magazine, "L'Ecran Fantastique"...

I would've loved to have seen that puppet. You're lucky, todmichel. I hope the Director of the Festival took care of it? Now that's a rare piece of British cinema and one to be treasured.
