Posts: 2555 (05/05/08 20:16:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I found this new (well at least new to me as there's no date on the packaging) Santo & Blue Demon Triple Feature Double DVD release from Pegassus Films simply called LUCHADORES See Below) at a local Wal-Mart's $5 bin so I snatched it up like no tomorrow. I already have two of the films on here (EL SANTO VS. LOS CAZADORES DE CABEZAS (Santo vs. the Head Hunters) and EL TESORO DE MONTEZUMA (The Treasure of Montezuma) which only features Santo the third film on here is LA MAFIA AMARILLA (The Yellow Mafia) a Blue Demon only film. So no team up films here but the Blue Demon film I had never seen before on any DVD so I grabbed it despite already owning the two Santo films that were previously individually release by Laguna Films and oddly what is release in this set are the exact prints from the Laguna Films DVDs including the artwork on the non-playing side of the disc with the CAZADORES DE CABEZAS movie which has a 2005 copyright by LF printed on it. The second disc is a double sided DVD so no artwork but put in the side with EL TESORO DE MONTEZUMA and bam Laguna Films intro pops up. I've seen Pegassus Films issue several of these 3 or 4 movie DVD releases containing several Mexican films that Laguna Films previously issued as single releases which makes me ask could these two DVD outfits be under the same ownership? Unfortunately there are no subs for the non-Spanish speaking fans but the positive side the prints of the two Santo films look pretty good and taking a quick look the Blue Demon film is a bit faded in some parts but more annoying was the issue with the color as red came off too strong and occasionally some of peoples skin came off looking pinkish but as I mentioned before never seen this film on any other DVD so I was glad to have it and will try to watch the entire movie later. I watched this movie yesterday for the first time and yes that fight at the end is one of the better ones from a Blue Demon film that I've seen. For those who haven't seen this film before here's the basic plot, Demon is hired by the sister of a dead cop to both clear his name and find out whose responsible which ends up being an Asian led mob (Yellow Dragon) hence the reference to Yellow Mafia in the movie's title. Legendary Mexican Comedian German Robles (aka Tin Tan) plays Demon's sidekick surprisingly it's one of his better performance as a sidekick however it is still sad to see that at the end of his career he was reduce to such lack luster roles. Thanks Mark Mark I haven't seen this DVD anywhere online yet and there's also no info on the company Pegassus Films (note the odd spelling with a double s) online either but I've seen several of their releases at various Wal-Mart especially the ones that carry Spanish language DVDs. I only found one when I bought it but if enough of these DVDs were produced my guess they will eventually show up on EBay or Amazon so you may want to keep an eye for it there. Luis

Posts: 2577 (05/11/08 21:22:17) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Found another Luchador Triple feature (see image below) at Wal-Mart's $5 bin this one is titled GRANDES TITANES DE LA LUCHA LIBRE (Great Titans of Wrestling) from Tekila it features one Santo film SANTO FRENTE A LA MUERTE (Santo Faces Death) previously issued as a single DVD release also by Tekila along with two early 1990's luchador films I've never seen before. The first of these 90's luchador films is 1993 movie VAMPIRO, GUERRERO DE LA NOCHE (Vampire, Warrior of the Night) which stars El Vampiro Canadiense (the Canadian Vampire) the second of the 90's films is the 1992 Sci Fi/Action flick LUCHADORES DE LAS ESTRELLAS (aka STARFIGHTERS) in which Blue Demon Jr. is suppose to make an appearance in what is his first and so far only movie credit. The heroes in the plot are El Volador and El Misterioso. Vampiro--Guerrero de la noche is a semi-sequel to Luchadores de las estrellas (linked via the character "Larrosa" played by Gloria Mayo). Blue Demon Jr. also appears in the video Blue Demon--el campeon (1989) as well, where he is interviewed on camera. (Curiously, in re-created footage of Blue Demon early in his career, he is played by another wrestler, not his son).

Watched these two lucha flicks last night for the first time and first one LUCHADORES DE LAS ESTRELLAS is the best of the two but the print quality looks like it may have been sourced from a VHS tape awful looking. Gloria Mayo is pretty sexy as a female wrestler "Larrosa" who has out of this world secret and is aided by the two male heroes El Volador and El Misterioso (who won't ever make me forget El Santo & Blue Demon) in battling and outer space menace in the form a big goon played by wrestler Nitron and three mini-size aliens played by midget wrestlers. The second film VAMPIRO, GUERRERO DE LA NOCHE is a complete mess as the story goes another alien, a male aided by a couple of hot female aliens, who decides to kidnap El Vampiro Canadiense for his two female cohorts and it's up to Larrosa (played by the lovely Gloria mayo again) to save him but she must avoid being captured as the male alien has eyes for her. Funny thing here El Vampiro Canadiense has very few speaking lines and his voice was dubbed (apparently he doesn't speak well enough Spanish) and actually spends a good time of the film tied to a bed while under the power of the aliens. Also Lady Apache doubled for La Rosa in both films during the physical action scenes and inring matches.There was at least one "real life" version of the gimmick but she never caught on.

Bad guy not a space alien? That shows you just how much I was paying attention to this really bad film that may me dose off a couple of times. I kid you not.

Curiously, the photo of "El Santo" is actually El Hijo del Santo. The credited director is Luis Kelly, who also made a feature film which sounds very interesting (sadly, I've never seen it, so the following synopsis may not be 100% correct!): Calacán (Grupo Emulsión y Gelatina--IMCINE--DASA Films--Focimagen, 1985) Genre: Fantasy; Dir: Luis Kelly; Cast: Mauro Mendoza, Silvia Guevara, Dora Montiel Synopsis: young Ernesto accidently overhears some sinister beings plotting to replace traditional sugar calaveras (skulls and skeletons) and calabazas (gourds) used for the Day of the Dead celebration with plastic "Halloween" artifacts. With the aid of his father, who sells traditional sweets for the festival, Ernesto travels to the enchanted village Calacán to warn the inhabitants of the danger. The boy and his allies--animated calaveras and other friendly but macabre characters--defend and protect the traditions of the Day of the Dead.

Does El Hijo del Santo appear in the documentaries (perhaps justifying his being on the cover)? Anyway the main point of my post was to point out that the triple feature found in the Wal-Mart $5. bin seems to be available from their web site. If you click on the picture it should/will take you to their web-site and the listing that includes the aforementioned Luchadores Triple feature.
