Posts: 857 (05/07/08 03:35:19) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None El vampiro opened the Acapulco International Film Festival with a screening in the famous grottoes of Cacahuamilpa, according to an article in today's La Cronica de Hoy (http://www.cronica.com.mx/nota.php?id_nota=360606), as part of a tribute to German Robles. The article has one blooper, listing the film as being "directed by Abel Salazar." It probably would have been cool to see this film shown in an underground cavern!

That's what I thought I wonder if any American films ever got filmed there too, perhaps the 1957 film THE BLACK SCORPION (which both takes place and was filmed in Mexico) and features an underground cave scene where the giant scorpions live. Roberto Gavaldon) was nominated as Best Foreign Language Film. Then Tlayucan (1961, dir. Luis Alcoriza) was nominated and Animas Trujano (1962, dir. Ismael Rodriguez) was nominated, which was pretty remarkable (3 movies in four years), even though none of three won. It was a while before the Oscars looked at Mexico again. BTW, Robinson Crusoe (1954, dir. Luis Buñuel) got an Oscar nomination, but not as Best Foreign Language Film (it was actually shot in English): Daniel (Robocop) O'Herlihy was nominated as Best Actor.
