What's always killed me is that some Mexican kids living on this side of the border don't even knows that it conmemorated the Battle of Puebla,in which
the Mexican army defeated the supposedly invincible French Navy.I remember last year talking to a cousin and he said "Yeah Pancho Villa fought in that
war!" Needless to say I don't hang out with him too much and pray that I am on the other side of the dna pool when it comes to my being genetically
linked to him.

I figured it might get loud here in my neighborhood on the North side of Chicago, but nope...no such luck!

My wife makes so little ado about Cinco de Mayo and casts it off to the gringos. For her I believe it is Sept. 16th? Dia de Independencia. Mexican history is
so full and interesting yet sadly my wife cares little about it with the exception of Zapata and Pancho Villa's exploits. I think she is embarrassed?
Surely Mexico has had so many mutations, so many conquests by foreign invaders, and of course it's very own brand of internal corruption, but tis such a
beautiful country and culture. I wish she had more pride in her country's past. Lord knows mi esposa esta mexicana pura y Viva La Mexico siempre!
HombreLobo44 P.S. We did watch Apocalypto on Cinco de Mayo, which she really enjoys alot. Lol. Mi pinche esposa es una loca. |

Cinco De Mayo in The US | ||
|
Bill (aka Hombre Lobo) many of my relatives in Mexico give me grief for celebrating Cinco de Mayo and pretty much ignoring Mexican Independence on September 16 but they just don't get what significance Cinco de Mayo has on this side of the border. If I were a citizen of Mexico then I probably would celebrate on September 16 but I'm a US born citizen so the Fourth of July is when I have my Independence Day celebration.
Well anyways back to Cinco de Mayo which is not a big deal for most Mexicans in Mexico except for those in the state of Puebla the site of the battle, but it's a big deal in the US because news of this victory back in 1862 came to give great pride to the Mexicans left behind on the now US side of the border who lived with the taste of defeat and loss of half of Mexico lands to the Gringos on a daily basis. So in no way is Cinco de Mayo ever started for or by the Gringos but rather it was started by Mexicans in the US to express their pride in a victory by their brothers in old Mexico, nowadays Gringos and everyone else can feel free to join in the celebration as it has evolved over the past century to be less about a military victory and more about pride of Mexican culture north of the border.

Nice thoughts, Luis and I'll take this to heart next Cinco de Mayo. Here in Arizona the gringos party it up alot on this day and make it an excuse to get
schnockered on tequila and eat mexican food. Not a bad idea actually.
