What I mean is that I understand that the text is in German, so my main interest would be in the photos, particularly if there are a lot of originl poster art reproductions that I can scan and use as DVD covers for my Franco discs. Does the book offer that? Thanks, Mark

All the pages are full colour and printed on glossy paper so i think they would scan well. It's about an equal measure poster reproductions and stills. Andy

Posts: 5 (07/19/08 02:42:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The book has 176 pages and covers by my count 164 of his movies up to Marie Cookie, some in small capsual reviews of no more than half a dozen lines and others are given 1 or 2 pages each. It also contains articles on Katja Bienert and Erwin C. Dietrich after the main filmography. The whole layout and design of the book is very similar to the German Joe D'Amato book although i think they are from different publishers. Andy

Posts: 39 (07/19/08 03:23:38) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I don't have the JF Chronicles book but, from Andy's photos, it looks like it says DIE NICHTEN DER FRAU OBERST is a Franco film. Also, the date is 1972, but lists the cast from the '68 version (and the lobbycard is clearly from the '80 version). I always thought this film was directed by Erwin C Dietrich. Anyone shed any light?

(And no, I did not see Francesco Cesari, though not for want of trying---has anybody seen him lately?) At the excellent though somewhat eccentrically organized Solaris store I picked up the Glittering Images Franco book, essentially the only one of their film books I did not own already. I am sure this has been pointed out here before, but I was astonished at the level of hostility of the author toward his subject---and toward poor Lina Romay in particular. I was offended---and I, after all, hate Franco!

I'm happy that you noticed, also from a "neutral" point of view, that the book was written under the effect of a personal hostility. I cannot state that the book is completely useless (Aguilar knows many things about Franco), but being published in Italy, it has very negative after-effects on Italian editorial market. Every publisher can say that a book on JF already exists in Italy, that it was written by a well-known historian of Spanish cinema, and very few persons have the means to understand that it isn't a well-made book.

Well, when selling your book you should try to play up the controversy angle, then. Even Italian publishers will understand that there is always room for a book that says something completely different about a topic that has already been introduced.

These titles are certainly niche and even the biggest fans will admit that there are some really bad movies out there. I'm at around 120 seen and a lot of them are what I'd consider "poor". That just adds to the fun of being a fan of his but for most people he will come off as making too many bad movies to be taken seriously or write about in a serious way.

It's smaller size and all the text is in Japanese, of course. Tiny graphic illustrations, probably taken from the internet. Btw, David, it may amuse you to know that Paxton was the inspiration for me to start THE MARK OF NASCHY. I saw what he was doing with Franco, and I decided to try the same thing with Naschy. Mirek

I would really be looking for unique graphics and it appears I won't find them in there. Tim P has inspired lots for me as well. About 9 years back I was talking to Tim and Dave at Kronos Productions about a new website/zine project and flew out to Oberlin OH to meet them. Along the way this cute gal that lived at Kronos Central really caught my eye. Today we have two kids and she may not really enjoy Franco movies, but she was pre-exposed enough to tolerate my excesses. "Oh, I'll be up in a few hours, I need to watch Girls In The Night Traffic and screen cap some of the hottest Kali Hansa moments for my blog." She doesn't get mad, she just sighs...I'm convinced she thinks that my hobby is normal thanks to all that time living with the men behind MONSTER!

I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks and found out that they have a store there. How is the writing in these magazines? Do they have color repros of poster-art inside? Posts: 12180 (08/25/08 07:24:21) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The Monster Bis publications are not deluxe (the b/w pages are actual photocopies that are then clued at the ends with a color cover to make an oversize, softcover publication), but they have knowledgeable text and an abundance of ad mats, poster artwork, photos--many very rare. Because of the basement level quality of the reproduction, these are not up to the standards of regular book publishing, but very welcome nevertheless. I love the few Monster Bis publications I have. Black and white all through and the quality of the photo and poster reproductions varies greatly depending on the source material, i cannot comment on the quality of the writing as do not read french well enough to pass judgment. They are very similar to the Cine Zine Zone magazines that were produced at around the same time. As per the par i have attached some photos so you can have a look for yourself. The first 4 are Monster Bis and the last 2 Cine Zine Zone. Andy
