I would imagine it is the same as the one they previously released on one of their Brentwood boxsets (which I posted a screenshot of previously) since all the
other titles in the set are the exact same titles they have previously released on these sets.

being worked on or, rather, getting
I finally picked the double pack up yesterday after being told for weeks it would NEVER be carried in-store. Well, it is now and I paid under 2 dollars for it because of credit on my BB card. It was stickered at 13.99 and rang up at 12.99. Noticed some interesting details about the Spanish track for LNDW/WS which I'll be reporting on my DVD review site later. This is certainly worth having and these films play infinitely better for me in Spanish. There are indeed motion problems throughout WS if you watch it carefully. But they are not as obvious as the motion jerkiness on the COTD disc. In terms of color and sharpness the BCI WS is a welcome upgrade from the AB. I would like to know the exact process for getting a replacement disc for COTD, and I hope they fix both discs and offer replacements. But I really can't complain too much since I got them for next to nothing and there's a lot of interesting in this package. Others may not be quite so forviging.

I'll stop by another Best Buy next time I am out near one... but based on the website, after looking in an actual store, my area stores won't have
this. But they did have all the other previous ones. If I see the double pack, I'll pick it up, as a collector(I'm still keeping my Mondo Crash Horror
Rises, which I actually bought after I had the BCI one). I hope to find it. But having the 2 AB discs, it's not a HIGH priority. I actually prefer a dub,
though the Curse dub is far from good.

I got COTD this week, could not wait any longer and got a real deal on it (though not as severe a deal as Bob). Took a look at it a night or two ago. COTD is
not my fave Naschy/Daninsky flick, but seeing a few minutes en Espanol makes it clear that this one will make a jump in my feelings about it. It sounds more
natural -- that is, the sound quality of the audio is significantly more appropriate. The liners are very well done, too. I like that the end is reflective on
this entire project -- a bit dismal, depressing that this is actually it for the series, but very well done again, Mirek. Perhaps a Rondo should be headed your
way next year...?
And the video quality, well, that's a pretty big mastering error. If this was a major release by a major company, heads would certainly roll. Ben |

The one thing that they did right was in hiring Mirek to pen these liners. They are just consistently excellent and informative both for people who know little
about these films and those who are longtime fans. I have collected all the releases and give several of them high marks for video quality, extras and just for
having the Spanish tracks. Even this very flawed package gives one three movies, still galleries, the aforementioned notes, etc all for under 15 dollars. But
this strikes me as another case of a company who made the fatal error of not understanding the films themselves, not understanding the target audience. If you
are going to invest money and time you survey your intended audience first. That's what I do for a living. I conduct professional level market research.
It's very detailed and demanding work. I don't really expect to get replacements for my purchase. I got what I wanted and I'm not going to lose my
head.

Unless they invent a new category (Best Liner Notes), I don't see any chance of a Rondo for my work on these. But thanks to both of you gentlemen for the
comments.
Robert, despite not doing market research on these, how would you best sell them in the market? Mirek |

Well, perhaps no Rondo for liners, but perhaps a Rondo for one of the writing categories?

I do think it would be good to award, or officially acknowledge the packaging of DVD releases, that would include the liner notes, cover design etc. This is a
part of overall production design of a release, and some are really outstanding, while some are bad.

rt, despite not doing market research on these, how would you best sell them in the market?
Best Buy gives you possible volume sales and the coming boxsets will ultimately be probably more profitable than the stand alones. But the average BB movie customer doesn't want to see these films. I never thought I would see them sold there. The low priced double packs are probably a tough way to make a lot of money. In the future I can see these being sold directly over television or pay on demand where everyone will get them at the same time. A European Trash Cinema network, perhaps.... and you will be able to print the film onto mini dvds with a new kind of technology. There will be no more paper money, brick and mortars or credit cards to worry about.

Well, yes, a European Trash Cinema channel would make these films accessible to far more people. It's regrettable that, so far, no one has attempted to
either create a channel around euro-genre films or supply their current channel with a healthy volume of such films. (For a long time I had a fantasy of a
Euro Channel that would play just European films--art, genre--and entertainment and travel shows. I have no dough to make this any kind of reality, though.)
But at this moment in time, without that as a possibility, I would experiment with pricing such DVDs higher than what is typically being charged. And here
Severin may be doing things right, though I'm sure that some of the company's releases are not doing well, no matter what the price.
But let's say one can get one's hands on THE BEAST AND THE MAGIC SWORD. We know there is a market for this film (and probably larger than it was before the BCI films, which did manage to attract new fans to Naschy), but that market is still going to niche and small when compared with major releases. So, if you know you are going to sell, say 5,000 copies, wouldn't it be best to price your DVD at $29.99, rather than $10.99? Mirek |

I think labels like EMS (is it EMS?)should continue what they did with BLOOD & BLACK LACE and HUNCHBACK
make sure it's region 0 and English friendly and charge a lot for a limited release. I wonder if EMS is still doing this? I haven't heard about any future releases.

Looking back now, I'm sure Cliff & Co. are kicking themselves, wishing that they had charged more for their efforts. Little do they know (?) that we
would've paid $30 for these all (assuming the effort would've been consistent til the very end, that is).

BLOOD MOON | ||

Here's what I said in my review of the LA NOCHE DE WALPURGIS DVD: "...these, but one is definitely called for in this case. This package is something
of a mess, but a very affordable one if the double pack is available in your area." And there will be a Euro-genre on demand option as soon as someone
makes a proper presentation. And I would gladly pay more to get what I want. I was just discussing with my friend Greg Hillabrand those good old days of paying
up to 30 bucks for a blurry video. And I still have my prerecord of BLOOD MOON!

I agree, I think BCI did undercharge for these. And yes, the low price did make us happy. But I also think the only people that buy these are the fans who know
what they are getting, as well as know what they want. I also remember way back when VHS was very exspensive. I myself bought HG Lewis Wizard of Gore, and The
Gruesome Twosome on Midnight Video back in the early 80's, and I think they were about $40 bucks apiece, but that's just how it was in those days. Of
course these days, DVDs are so much cheaper. I like to find a good deal myself, and even though I am a Naschy fan, I am not sure I'd dole out $30 bucks a
title. I'd look around and find it used somewhere. But I think I might have bought the double set for 25-30 dollars. But, I really don't know, as I
have really become used to low DVD prices, and I really can't go over $15 for a title anymore.

I use to pay over $100.00 for horrible pan & scan versions of films like JULIETTE OF THE SPIRITS.
And that one didn't even have an end on it...it ended when the tape ran out. i'm glad those days are gone. |

I paid $50+ for the Anolis HUNCHBACK DVD, regularly pay $25 - $30 or more for foreign DVDs, and used to pay hundreds of dollars for certain laserdiscs that I
wanted. As long as the discs are mastered correctly and the films are as uncut as possible and in their proper aspect ratios, I'd have no problem paying
that much, and would prefer it if it would help guarantee more of these obscure films would be released. If they did do that, I would hope that they would
stretch the release schedule out a little further so that you didn't have to drop a bunch of money all at once.
