I travelled in Europe for an extended period two summers in a row in 02 and 03 (about 2 months each time), although not Western, but Central Europe -- Poland,
Slovakia, Hungary, which was my dream at the time. Taught English in Krakow for a month, for which I was ggiven room and board but no money, but then gave me
and the other teachers a week's trip around the country to various cities and towns big and small on their dime with all food paid for. I had been tutoring
Poles in NYC in the early 90s and had some Hungarian friends, so via some phone calls and complicated entanglements was able to always have someone somewhere
put me up and show me around. It was magical, particularly taking a night train from Poland to Budapest in first class (which was like 30 American dollars at
the time)...a Russian was in my compartment for part of the time, and when at the Slovak border, classic uniformed soldiers with machine guns and big dogs came
aboard and really gave the Russian a hard time!
It was an awesome adventure with all sorts of components, a dream of mine I fulfilled with some effort and ultimately without spending much money at all, and I stretched it out 2 years in a row, so it is proof these things can be done. Still want to hit London, Paris, etc., though for some reason living there for an extended period doesn't excite me; with a Polish wife I'd like to actually head back to Poland and spend a year doing something perhaps, get another crack at the country. I don't think she'd be opposed, but with the baby... Would like to get a screenplay produced, yes. I've gotten paid for a few things, wrote a porno (don't ask -- it wasn't a porno when I wrote it), got a New York Foundation of the Arts grant for a script, but nothing produced with everyone on board getting paid...Again, doable, just gotta keep putting the sweat in... Already made love to an Asian woman, back in the day. It was fine, although I prefer European women...thinking back, what I find most exciting in retrospect was her taking me to all the cool Chinese restaurants in Manhattan and Flushing that didn't even have signs in English and served stuff off the menu to people who could speak the language...but I'm married (happily so), so I'm just hoping for health for the wife. Those kinda fantasies are definitely in the rear-view mirror for me. I'd also like to live a spell in San Francisco; love that town. Oh, and in the not-likely-to-be-done-anytime-soon-catagory, I always wanted to pilot the Staten Island Ferry! "More than a little hysterical" |

Very nice stuff, iamglobal! That train ride sounds straight out of a movie or song by Loreena McKennitt. It sounds like you had and have a good life. This is
good to know. About SanFrancisco, I would love to spend a few years of my life there too! Incredible city, though I would have a very difficult time supporting
their sports teams. My best friend lives east of the city up in Clayton. Beautiful. SanFrancisco has some of the best places for music, film, and defintiely
food. I recall once my friend took my wife and I to see a Jackie Chan film in Chinatown and yes it was very wierd. Nothing in English, no popcorn, and nary a
white man in sight. I think my wife at the time was more taken back by it than I. My friend is married to a Chinese woman and speaks fluent Mandarin and some
Cantonese. For him going to see this film at that theater was no big deal. I am sort of at this point now with my current situation. My wife is Mexican and
when I met her she barely spoke enough English for us to communicate. Her whole family speaks zero English and many of the places I go to are minus the white
man. It doesn't phase me at all anymore. In fact many Mexicans are shocked that we are married or that I can actually understand some of the yang they are
spitting. Good stuff. Yes I would love to live in the Bay area. If I could then I would finally be able to join my friend in a band and play all the clubs that
he is currently playing. That would be a dream come true!

iamglobal wrote:nothing to be ashamed of! i've submitted music to a few porn outfits (Razorgirls, Joanna Angel, Belladonna) but sadly, most of the Alt. porn stuff is just a gimmick and they still want nice friendly music. or they thought my stuff sucked. i wouldn't even need to be paid, i just think it would be rad...even if i don't usually watch porn with the sound up I'd also like to live a spell in San Francisco; love that town.me and the wife are thinking about vacationing up there in the next few years. any tips? |

Well, if you like garlic, there's a restaurant called the Stinking Rose where everything is super garlicky, including the ice cream. Excellent food.
Amoeba's near Golden Gate Park is the mecca for used cds/dvds, the place is a warehouse. Get one of those weekly passes that allow you to hop on and off
all of the transit, including the cable cars (cable car tickets by themselves are expensive)...take one of the boat rides that goes around the harbor and the
golden gate bridge and all that....if you think you'd find Alcatraz interesting, do it, cuz it is very interesting. If you dig nature, check out the Muir
woods in Marin County, which were incredibly beautiful...uhh, you can take Caltrain from S.F. to some pleasant smaller cities like San Mateo and such (buses
will get you there, too)...and those hills. Nothing you read/see/hear will prepare you for the hills.
As for the porno, Again, I was paid a very healthy amount for the script, which is a foolish thing for a porno producer, but it wasn't porno when the project was mounted (pardon the pun)...but when the producer blew half the budget on coke, apparently, she turned it into a porno (she had a past as a porno producer)...long story. Oh man my friend use to haunt Amoeba's! He may even have taken me in there. I don't recall the name of many of the places my friend has taken me. Many
great Chinese food joints. Thai food, Indian food. Haight/Asbury District, of course the Golden Gate Bridge. he took us north up to Mendocino which was
gorgeous! Stopped at some little place for clam chowder that was incredibly tasty. I saw my favorite guitarist in the world; Steve Hackett ex of Genesis in a
strip mall in San Jose! Bizarre, yet very intimate. I actually know so little about the city as far as spots to see. All I know is that when that ocean air
hits my face I am in heaven.

I have to go year by year, as I've done quite a bit but the list of things to still do changes.
But, I do want to go back to England, for a bit. While the England I know is still there. A trip to Italy is pretty much required, as I have dozens of relatives to see. Same for Ireland and parts of Germany, but with slightly less relatives. Iceland,Greenland,Norway and Sweden are definitely on the list. Beautiful countries. San Francisco...Ah, I was to move there this year. But alas, the economy has dictated otherwise, so I'm back in Ft. Lauderdale for a year. Would like to get this foococking film shot and done sometime before the end of my days, here. Soon...soon. "Sigh" I had raising a daughter on my list for a while, but I have determined that that ship has very likely sailed. C'est LaVie. That's all I can think of, for now. I'm sure I've missed another dozen things or so. |

I'm not much for travel, but I'd like to make to Greece, and see the Parthenon, the Oracle at Delphi, the site of the ancient Olympics, Minoan Crete,
and pretty much troll the ancient ruins of that part of the world. Other places to go: Easter Island, England one more time, make the Toronto Film Fest one
more time, and maybe a few more places. May have a chance to go to Korea in the near future, not sure if I'll go or not.
I'd like to make a cool horror short and get it into a quality festival (Fantasia, or Screamfest LA, something like that). I'd like to record a few more albums of the ridiculous music my bro and I make, including an outrageous "concept album". I'd like to redo my & my brothers old webcomic into something slightly more successful this time around. I'd like to finish a few more feature scripts, and send them to script contests, regardless of their success. I'd like to have enough money built up to, like many folks here, retire away to a nice little plot of land in the country.
"I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous
that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I cannot transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in
intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls." - Anaïs Nin
