what a hack job! I really need to pick up the 16mm version because watching the version on TCM is painful.

Too bad the Family Value acquisition agents ripped the Synapes DANSE MACABRE & nabbed the cut version of CANDLE FOR THE DEVIL instead of getting one of these back when they were making those Halloween double feature DVDs. That 16mm print isn't so bad once you've gotten beyond the titles.

The cropping is too bad because even though the TCM version is the same 16mm print, its a sharper digital transfer which would've been nice if they'd left it fullframe in the absence of the 2.35:1 version.

New proof that there is indeed a nice looking and proper OAR version of the movie in the world:
Here's the typical look we're used to here in the US of the same scenes:

Wow Ben...is it complete?
Where did you get it? |

It's from an Italian broadcast and was 'at that place' this morning....apparently runs three minutes shorter than the English dubbed version.

Still waiting to take a look at this, and I was wondering what might be trimmed from the Italian print.
Then it dawned on me the run time difference could just be PAL speed up....maybe the English track can be slowed down a notch to fit? I am sure devious minds are already planning the fan dub / sub special edition! |

Wow!
Very interested in this one, even in Italian. A fandub or preferably sub would be fantastic! |

Looks great though I'm thinking it should be scope (perhaps the transfer was cropped to 16:9 - wouldn't be unusual for a cable broadcast of a scope
film).

I'm currently working on adding the English dub to the Italian version. Really nice looking. The problem I'm having is about every other scene has to
be adjusted, audio wise. But, much of the dubbing matches up -- at least for Christopher Lee and Donald Sutherland. I'm about halfway done, too.

bgart13 wrote: It happens that way. When I did SO SWEET SO PERVERSE, the Italian version ran milliseconds longer in just about every scene (or within scenes) for the first two thirds and then milliseconds shorter for the last section. Whether it is due to fine tuning of the foreign version (or the English version) and/or print damage, you'll probably find yourself making several hundred little adjustments (of course, if you haven't adjusted the framerate of the audio or the video then its also going to drift out of sync). |

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I did remember to adjust the sound for PAL runtime.
