Comet TV is one of those cable TV networks that show "oldies" programming. In this case, Comet has access to vintage horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films from the depths of the MGM catalog.
MGM HD shows films that have been preserved in high definition. Comet tends to air MGM titles that haven't been transferred to HD.
Comet is scheduled to air THE MINOTAUR (1960) on Saturday, May 14th. I believe that this will be the first airing of that film since a long-ago airing on TNT back in the early-mid 1990's. That airing on TNT was the first time I had seen the film televised in color. All previous airings on local independent TV stations had transmitted the film in B&W.
I'll be very interested in seeing if the Comet print of THE MINOTAUR bears an MGM logo.
Its United Artists theatrical co-feature was THE REVOLT OF THE SLAVES, which airs occasionally on MGM HD and was recently released on MGM MOD. THE MINOTAUR has never been released on US home video.
There is a gorgeous, widescreen Spanish PAL DVD of THE MINOTAUR that looks to have been mastered from the original camera negative. However, the Spanish disc is not English-friendly.
