I want this to be a manifesto of sorts. I will complete and issue, gradually, two volumes of the Mexican horror book I am working on, and I may have small projects to accomplish, but something has moved up dramatically in my schedule so that I am even now working on it. Though I had wanted this book to take shape after a book on Classic Spanish Horror, I realize that I cannot wait any longer.
I will be working steadily on a book on Paul Naschy (Jacinto Molina Alvarez). This has come to a certainly because of the realization that 1) I am not “getting any younger.” I have a lot to write about Naschy and his films, perhaps more hours than any other person aside from his family, letters addressed to me, and even a couple of scripts that need to be discussed. 2) The knowledge that another writer, one who has never expressed any interest in Naschy, will be doing a Naschy book of his own. It is quite possible that this individual will get his book out sooner than I (he works fast), but I don’t care. No one “owns” Naschy or another filmmaker, and his life and films are anyone’s choosing to turn into a book.
So let this be a statement of fact, as much as anyone can make given life’s uncertainties: I am writing a book, perhaps the book, on Paul Naschy.
