Mabuse...where to start? |
Lead | |
|
Does anyone know of a great/definitive site that can outline the Mabuse films? That is, where to start, the basics of, etc? I've been totally intrigued by the name alone, but seeing the dvds and the art really up the interest levels. I know some of you here are old pros, so if you feel like giving a lesson in Mabuse to me/us, please do!

Try this, Ben:
www.objectif-cinema.com/s...rticle4633 The above is written by Mabuse expert David Kalat. If you have some money to spend, you may try this: www.alldayentertainment.c...1225055827 Mirek |

I would highly recommend David Kalat's book. I wore out the softback edition and had to search around for the hardcover. I see you're a Chicago native, Ben. It is the most accomplished of the films cinematically (it still holds up well in 200

Well, cheers, Bill! Thanks for the in-depth, yet streamlined info on the Mabuse stuff. Certainly lays it out simply.
As a sidenote, Mr. Kalat appears to have moved AllDay to my neck of the woods, and is supposed to be working with Facets Multimedia here in Chicago. Perhaps I should keep an eye out for theatrical presentations of the Mabuse films....? Ben |

As far as I know, All Day has always been based in Chicago. But yes, you need Kalat's book if you have any interest whatsoever in the Mabuse pictures.

I've now seen MABUSE THE GAMBLER, TESTAMENT OF DR. MABUSE, and a bit of SCOTLAND YARD JAGT DR. MABUSE, and have the Retromedia Mabuse Collection in my
queue at Netflix. I do indeed have interest...which means more time and money devoted to movies...damn.

The Retromedia transfers I found to be significantly cropped, for what its worth.
