DR MABUSE VS SCOTLAND YARD |

This feature seems almost like an EW entry. A question: should the Dr who was possessed by Mabuse's spirit be prosecuted for his crimes?

I consider the Mabuse films cousins of the Wallace krimi series, except for Lang's 1000 EYES, which has a different, more sophisticated and complex feel to it. Another cousin: SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE DEADLY NECKLACE, which will be coming out on DVD soon from Retromedia.
As for your question, Robert, I'd say the doctor may have a good case in proving his innocence. Mirek |

I feel that this should have been the last in the Dr Mabuse series. It is a neat mix of Edgar Wallace(Bryan) & Mabuse.
Drawbacks are the fact that the print I have seen has been cut by about 10 minutes and the hero's mom is rather annoying. I'd love to see the full cut on dvd! |

I love the Mom!
"A question: should the Dr who was possessed by Mabuse's spirit be prosecuted for his crimes?" Yes. Someone that weakwilled should not be on the streets among the responsable. He should be put away. One of Lang's points with TESTEMENT was that Dr. Mabuse was more than a name but several people commiting evil. |

So the people who voted for the criminal regime should be punished? |

Well such things have happened. I'm not sure if the people should be punished over what leaders do in office through a regime. It is such broad question that it would be easy to contradict myself. I hate to be relative but it may depend on the crime and in what way and how much are the people involved. In the case of Professor Polland, he was more than an active member, he was the architect. I don't think he feels remorse, only at the beginning and the end of his character arc. |

I kinda liked it but it is the worst in the series. I just liked how inept it was. Everyone knows about the sectret agents and Van Eyck as an "action hero". I think the script is actually quite good (as a parody anyway) it just needed a better director. |

The drama over whose attending Gilda's birthday party is the best part. And Mabuse does attend and brings a gift - the old softie.
