Apart from DAY WATCH and NIGHT WATCH, what other contemporary horror films have been made by Russia?
After a chance encounter, young Vera finds herself chased by three vengeful, telekinetic ghosts. As she tells her friends about it, she doesn't realise that she's passed on the curse to them too...
This film, available with reasonably good English subtitles on the Russian DVD releases, is already in the first stages for a US remake (according to IMDB).
It's very derivative of recent Japanese horror movie elements, but at least gives us a taste of modern life in Russian city. The uber-trendy shooting style of floating camera and fast editing can soon become hypnotic. The unreal colour pallette is a bonus to atmosphere too.
While the plot is nothing new, the locations, cast, and approach are all satisfyingly different.
