has anyone seen a recent adaptation of THE HOUSE OF USHER directed by Hilary Cloake? I saw a copy of the DVD yesterday but decided not to rent it because of the ridiculous sounding synopsis and then looked at the trailer on the web. The narrator is now a woman and the Usher siblings (now named Rick and Maddy) are twins. Rick was the narrator's lover, Maddy her friend. Maddy's dead and the narrator travels to the house of Usher and see weird things and tries to discover the secret of the Ushers. Apparently there's also a creepy Mrs Danvers-esque housekeeper without the subtlety. Perhaps its better than how the synopsis sounds and the trailer looks but I haven't decided if I'll bother with it. I've already sat through Harry Alan Towers' update of the story.
