Posts: 2767 (04/28/08 07:11:09) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hey pretty cool clip, I've never seen any of EL Monje Loco comics before I do recall there was a movie in the 1980's titled EL MONJE LOCO but I never seen it and I wonder if this had anything to do with the comic book series.

I have the video somewhere and will post a scan if possible. I guess the film did present the character. I've no idea what the rights situation is with EL MONJE LOCO, however, so whether these are "official," I don't know. The character also made an appearance in LEYENDAS MACABRAS DE LA COLONIA (1973). Posts: 486 (04/28/08 09:54:50) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	El Monje Loco puts in two appearances in LEYENDAS MACABRAS DE LA COLONIA.He is playing an organ and acting as a narrator of sorts to the action though why they did it is beyond me since the story is easy to follow.Perhaps the filmmakers were showing their sense of humor.Or they were trying to pad the film even more and believe me the film is padded out plenty!

Posts: 898 (04/28/08 10:02:32) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	A series of 6 Monje Loco shorts were made in the early '40s; 4 were apparently assembled into a feature film. These featured the creator of the character (from the 1930s radio show), Salvador Carrasco. Probably a "lost" film, but who knows for sure. I have been unable to specifically date the direct-to-video "Monje Loco" movie (which I have), but it's probably late 1980s (EDIT: I see IMDB has 1984, for what it's worth). Stars Julio Augurio and Julio Aldama (Augurio's father, who also directed). It's a two-parter, the first is the "origin" of the Monje Loco, the second is an adaptation of "The Monkey's Paw" with the Monje Loco as the narrator/host. The Monje's catchphrase was "Nadie sabe, nadie supo" (Nobody knows, nobody knew...).

The Shadow originally started his radio career in 1930 as a mystery host, only to later develop into a character that was the protagonist of a "Shadow" radio series. Your know ghost, cemeteries, ruined churches and old haunted houses, while el Monje Loco has more to do with modern elements of horror. Mirek Ohhhhh, yes. I recall him from there. Not a favorite element, with the bits he was given to do (playing a keyboard when there isn't one there, to allow for camera placement, etc.)...
