BLOOD THIRST - 1971 |
Lead | |
|
I watched BLOOD THIRST last week for the first time and was pleasantly surprise by the late 1950's/early 1960's vibe to this film which was also aided by the fact it was a black & white film. The film is about an American sex crime specialist arriving in the Philippines to help a friend who is a cop (and Peter Lorre look-a-like) in a town plague by bizarre deaths were young women are not just killed but also drained of all their blood. The creature in the film just looks so cheesy (but in a good way) the film is just good fun for fans of 50's & early 60's era horror (a more innocent time) and it is hard to believe this film was done around the same time as the more gory Blood Island films. In fact watching the movie it felt more like I was watching a US or Mexican film from a decade earlier. I watched the film courtesy of the Something Weird Video double feature that pairs it with the British film BLOOD SUCKERS (aka INCENSE FOR THE DAMNED) which as usual foe SWV it has lots of extra goodies. Anyone else out there like this movie?

Quote: It was actually made in 1965 but not released in the US until 1971. I like the movie, too. |

What a coincidence...this movie is playing on Count Gor-DeVols sight right now.

Oh, I think I was taken....
I just bought this, but it seems I already have it. I have a version called Blood Thirst. Well, today I saw a DVD, for 7.99 and took a chance on it, called The Blood Seekers. Tha back mentions Mad Doctor of Blood Island, which I am curious about, and it also mentioned Horror of the Blood Monsters, and says this has color tinted scenes. Of course the DVD art has no actual scenes from the movie, and the cover looks cool, and it says "color", so I would have had no idea this is the B&W Blood Thrist. Now I have not watched this yet, but I am curious if it is tinted, as I recall no tint in the other version I have. Has anyone here seen this DVD, The Blood Seekers, from Morella Presents Graveyard Series? I'll probably watch this DVD in the next few days, or maybe even today. Oh, I also picked up their House of Evil, one of the Mexican Karloff movies, which I have The Fear Chamber, and The Snake People already. Carl |

Hey Carl...MAD DR OF BLOOD ISLAND is a hoot!
Everytime time the monster shows up the camera frantically zooms in and out to enhance the monsters effect...great stuff. BRIDES is good too. |

Well,
I watched it... (Blood Seekers), and I do think this is a decent movie, but I am a bit unhappy I bought it, because I already had it, under the other title. I had no idea I was buying the same movie I already had. I was thinking it was one of those Blood Island titles. Hopefully I'll be able to sell it on ebay. It did some color tint, but it didn't happen till about an hour in, and then it happened only a few times more. The tint was nice, I wish it had been used more, throughout the movie. I am not sure if the tint is even in the other version I have under Blood Thirst. Oh well, Carl |

I only have the "Morella Presents" release, under the title THE BLOOD SEEKERS, but I showed it to a friend who has the Something Weird disc, and
according to him the Morella presentation is "by far the better" - he was talking about the picture quality in this transfer.
