I've really enjoyed the Mexican and Santo films, have had a lot of fun with peplums, and have even delved into some Franco films. Two genres that have really gotten me interested, due to this forum, are the German Krimi's and the Indian (Bollywood) films. Having little knowledge of either, I need some recommendations. What would be good films to get my feet wet with Bollywood? Which films would represent the best of the genre? That BANDAH DARWAZA dude looks creepy as hell! Thanks in advance Brant

It comes with another Bollywood horror film and also a featurette on Bollywood horror that will give you a good idea of the genre. Unfortunately, at this point in time, the Mondo Macabro DVD is the only easily-accessible DVD showcasing an Indian horror film. More is promised from the label. Mirek

The second film on the MONDO set has another film entitled PURANA MANDHIR which is also creepy, as it has the same actor that portrays the vampire in BANDH DARWAZA. You can buy these from MONDO or order them from Netflix to see if you like them or not. I love the good and the bad of Indian horror. MONDO and NETFLIX also has a Pakistani Vampire film entitled THE LIVING CORPSE that is awesome.If you wish to get the taste of earlier Indo-Paki horror. Coming up should be vol 2 of the BOLLYWOOD HORROR COLLECTION which will include a film entitled VEERANA. The first Bollywood set has amongst the extras, snippets of VEERANA and others that I can't wait to buy. Netflix has some other Indian and Malaysian horror films which I have rented that are great fun. Get ready for a wild and wooly ride, because these movies are not your average Euro-American films.I really enjoy them and I hope that you will to. There is not enough activity in this VENGEANCE OF KALI forum. I hope that will change as people become better aquainted with this genre. Best Randall

I like something a little different, so I'll let you know what my impressions are after I see it. Randall, I had wondered if that LIVING CORPSE would be any good or not. I've read a little about it, but passed over it a few times. I'll have to give it a shot, too. Brant

I asked for any Ramsay Bros releases from the eighties, and they just looked at me weird, and said that most Indians prefer more modern releases, tis a pity. the only films of this genre that I have are the Mondo Macabro COLLECTION 1 What is your opinion of KHOONI DRAKULA ? regards Sweetwhitekitten formally known as Mr. Butthole

These DVDs were found in Paris, but most of all are not very old movies, with the exception of "Mahal" (1949), "Aan" (1952) and one of the "Snake Woman" titles (1976). Perhaps the good solution, as I suggested in another post, is not to ask for "Ramsay" or "horror movies", you just make a list of titles (taken from reference books, etc.) and you ask the vendor if he has these movies. As I told, he found ten of them the first time I used this stratagem ! Apparently some Indian websites on the Web have old Indian films for sale, but in the "fantasy genre", most of them are not horror films but mythologicals, with gods and demons, etc. Of course they are interesting too ! As you probably know, quite a lot of Indian movies were made simultaneously by one studio in different "language" versions (like the Universal "Dracula") until very recently, and many of these old fantasy classics can exist in several versions, with the same sets, music, director (not always), but with different casts (often), lyrics, etc. And of course, the titles are also different...

The store staff don't think there are such things as Indian horror movies, so--yes--it's best just to give a title of a film or films that you are interested in, not the genre. Mirek
