Great, if somewhat strange series that, for all it's quirks, was fresh and unique. Actually it's probably because of it's myriad of odd ball quirks that I liked it. Got a bit stupid in the last season though.
Thoughts?

Who remembers LEXX?

In short: LEXX was a sci-fi TV series. It started, I believe, as a series of four 'movies' (?) on Showtime called "Tales From a Parallel Universe" . Though it may have originally been a German mini-series production.
What sets it apart from other sci-fi series was the fact it was aimed squarely at adults. It was slightly fetishistic in it's costuming, had some brief nudity, and was essentially about a ship of misfists who'd managed to steal the most powerful warship in the two universes (the LEXX) and were fleeing from His Divine Shadow (the Emperor of the Dark Zone, AKA the Light Universe, IIRC) and basically followed their bumbling adventures aboard the LEXX. And, no, it wasn't a clone of Farscape. LEXX, or at least it's "Tales From a Parallel Universe" incarnation, predated Farscape by a few years at least. Considering LEXX, the series, aired on the Sci-Fi channel I'm surprised no one here has heard of it. Then again it seems to have totally disappeared, even on DVD. No one seems to stock it and, unlike Farscape or Andromeda, it's never had a re-release AFAIK. At least if it has neither BB or Wal*Mart carries it. |

Yes, Lexx started as four 90 minutes movies made for television in 1996. They were Canadian-German co-productions. The titles are:
Lexx - The Dark Zone: I Worship His Shadow Lexx - The Dark Zone: Super Nova Lexx - The Dark Zone: Eating Pattern Lexx - The Dark Zone: Giga Shadow They had very high production values (at least by TV standards) and some great and creative FX work. They mixed SF, Splatter, Comedy and Sex. At the time of their first release they were quite popular in the German-speaking language room. Despite that, uncut versions of those films didn't surface in Germany to date (2008!). The Japanese LD box set had them completely uncut. The 4 movies were followed by a 3-season TV show which was somewhat tame by comparison with the films. |

Never saw DVDs for the movies so all I have are the showtime recordings and one VHS. Alas the DVDs of this show quickly went OOP, not that many retailers ever carried them. |
