CASABLANCA EXPRESS: Sergio Martino 80s spy flick with Jason Connery. Fullscreen; bargain basement. THE KILLER ELITE: MGM does it right with this nihilistic Sam Peckinpah film in which the CIA are the villains. Very underrated and letterboxed at 2.35:1 looks stunning. Under 10 dollars at Best Buy. CASINO ROYALE: another terrific under 10 dollar MGM disc. One of the oddest James Bond fests with multiple directors. Lots of extras including interview with Val Guest and the 50s TV version.

I want to like it, and at times I get close to a mood that will offer me a nice perspective while viewing the film, but eventually no go.... Perhaps I should concentrate on the colors and the always interesting Terence Stamp. Aside from a couple of Connery Bonds, I don't believe I have anything in the way of spy movie DVDs. I should get THE IPCRESS FILE, a favorite, the disc of which has a commentary by director Sydney Furie, and add to my Harry Palmer collection its sequel, FUNERAL IN BERLIN. Which reminds me, I do have another spy movie DVD: It's one of two awful Palmer films produced by Harry Alan Towers a decade or so ago. Oh so many times in the super spy business you can't go home again. Anyway, back to the golden age: Ken Russell's BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN (the last real Palmer) should be released on DVD, as its TV presentations were regrettable with cuts and pan/scan madness, and it never saw an authorized video release in the States.
