Read this sequel to SLUGS last night (I still haven't read the original). Slugs come from the countryside to London in heads of lettuce discarded at a fruit and vegetable market, get eaten by a tramp, breed, and get loose in the city sewers. Not only do they eat people but their slime causes psychotic behavior in people who then eventually end up gestating more slugs.
Multiple gory descriptions of slugs attacking in more ways then you would want to imagine. 367 pages but a fast read even with breaks to decide if you want to finish it or not after each attack set piece.
