As some sort of bewildering posturing you challenge Mirek to quantify his published history "I'd be grateful for a list of publications you've worked for during, say, the past 10 years" and then relate that to your history of work with the likes of The Guardian, SFX, The Solihull Times and Birmingham Arts (I'm sure their editors are all very proud to your reference in this scenario)...does providing evidence of a Blue Peter badge and published work in the Beano (one for the Brits reading) give a person the god given right to lord over someone campaigning for writers rights and ill advised actions on the online community? I don't think so...Mirek's doing something pro-active - what exactly are you doing?

(Mil gracias, btw.) As it is that the Sex Gore Mutants case and the threat against Dark Side of Plagiarism should be mentioned here and elsewhere. When Sex Gore Mutants is compelled to remove its Dark Side review, when the Anchor Bay UK forum removes its Dark Side thread at the same time, that's obvious news--at least for the fan community that is aware of these sites and the people involved. When the Dark Side of Plagiarism site is threatened, that's news also. Steve may think that these are nonsense incidents, not worthy of any light being focused on them, but just as he has gotten off the track on the history of massive plagiarism at The Dark Side (calling it now "apparent malpractive"), he is off the track on these matters. I don't know exactly what's going on with him (perhaps he wishes to write for Allan Bryce again and/or Calum Waddell and Jay Slater are friends of his), but something's up, and I don't think it's just a personality clash with me or his upset at the "fatigue and ennui" he gets when he comes here--an upset that keeps him awake till pre-dawn hours. They might be interested to hear about both parts of this story Old Media using New Media as a lucky dip and individuals using lawsuits as a means to force censorship. Last year they were instrumental in stopping Michael Crook from using the DMCA process to silence critics. Also if you havent contacted them already, Plagiarism Today have a free consultation process.

In fact, I've only met her 2 or 3 times. After being badgered all night at a Fango show, I finally told her yes, she could submit an article for Worldly Remains if she wanted to, she was all excited, literally jumping up and down, and then never delivered. Of course, she was extremely drunk at the time so she may have forgotten. Who knows? I know when I've been extremely drunk I've forgotten stuff. Mind you, I toild her she could submit. That didn't mean I'd print it. I didn't know if she could write or not. Since then, I've read some of her stuff - or tried to - and frankly, it's mediocre at best. Somehow I'm not in the least bit surprised that she's writing for Bryce. It's appropriate somehow. Just because someone accepts the possibility of a semi-open door and doesn't follow through doesn't brand them as useless. In that case, you said you'd look at submitted material; she never followed through. I've assigned material to genuine pros-- practiced writers that I've trusted-- and sometimes they don't come through. Heidi Martinuzzi was unaware of the situation with Darkside until I told her about 3 weeks ago at a Dark Delacacies signing. She read through the Latarnia history and wrote me that she was appalled... and realized she hadn't yet been paid for her latest submissions.

But if you insist. why is it that those established in artistic circles are quick to criticize and dismiss those who are not part of thier cliques? I find it quite condescending, and hypicritical to boot, to make fun of the eager beavers coming into the scene who are proud of thier accomplishments (no matter how small compared to others) and anxious to grow and network, as if the established artist he/she is sucking up to has not been there before. Just because someone doesn't walk around with a roledex of names and personal numbers programmed into their cellphones of the top big wigs within the circle they are trying to break into does not discredit the potential and what they can possibly contribute if given the proper guiedence and time to nurture.

I was very happy to take her on spec and print her work. Possible it would require some editing and that's fine. It's what we we're there for. In Heidi's case, she never responded. She didn't even contact me to say she had changed her mind. She simply disappeared. I found some of her stuff online a couple of months later and wasn't impressed. This is years ago now. Ted - whose opinion I value - tells me there's more to her than what I have believed. Based on his word, I'm willing to give her another shot. This is far from simply dismissing someone I don't know because they're not part of my "clique." I don't have a clique. I know a lot of people, work with a lot of people, party with a lot of people and have very few close friends. I consider Ted one of them. I hope this clarifies a few things and that you now understand my position a bit more. I can only speak for myself however. If these last comments by Paura and JoJo were addressing someone else, I apologize for sticking my nose in. And I assure you, there are places I want to break into that I am slowly but surely working on. I don't want to send stuff off half-cocked and can only work on it on weekends 'cause I work all day at my day job. As a result, it's taking me some time to hopefully reach the next level with the work that I do. My contact to the next level has thus far very patiently nursed me along and I now have to deliver something that has to be just right or I'll blow my chance. So I know how Heidi felt about wanting to get into another magazine. That's why I told her to come on board. Heidi had blown her chance with me but through Ted's nurturing spirit, the door is wide open for her again. So we'll see what happens. If he'd been polite and honest with you, possibly the two of you could have agreed to a reasonable compromise, like not removing his name, but paranthetically adding "who has not been found to have done any of the plagiarizing himself" after his name.
