These are two of the more successful self-portrait shots I took today in my attempt to mimic Mario Bava's use of color gels. The humid and smoggy weather has been keeping me inside lately, so I've rigged up the cheapest strobe kit possible to keep my creativity from waning. I've been into photography for a long time, but have never seriously tried portrait photography. It's a lot of trial and error, mostly error. The photo on the left has a better exposure, but its shadows are too harsh. The photo on the right is underexposed, but is more natural looking. I like "the cat" in the corner.
By the way, I smile and laugh a lot, it's just really difficult to not look like a maniac grinning in self-portraits.
