I've been just informed by its director, Jose Moral, that Paul Naschy has made his first music video for the group Necrophagia. MARK OF NASCHY will be getting more info and pics soon!

I don't think Necrophagia is that good of a band to start with. I think Naschy is more suited for a SKinny Puppy video or some other Gothic/Dark Electronic band.

He should get in touch with a Norwegian band called Ulver ("Wolves"). They started playing very primitive and raw black metal back in the early 90's, and nowadays release some of the most interesting and fascinating atmospheric albums I have ever heard. Their third album is called "The Madrigal Of The Night, 8 Hymns To The Wolf In Man" and they played a self-described style called "lyckantropic black metal".
I don't like Necrophagia, but I respect Killjoy (their vocalist), who is a BIG fan of Euro-Cult and also sings in at least 6 or 7 other bands. You can see a video-clip of them (directed by Jim Van Vebber) as part of the special features in Fulci's "The Beyond" DVD. |

Is this really a good thing for Naschy? I've seen a few Necrophagia videos (the one on THE BEYOND dvd and "They Dwell Beneath" on the LAST HOUSE ON DEAD END STREET dvd) and they are very amateurish and it's really bad metal. It seems like more transparent fan boy crapola to me. It always pisses me off when a band gets too caught up in their other interests and thinks it adds depth to their music. I really could care less if the singer knows his stuff about Euro horror-does that make the music any better? No. If it's just icing on the cake (such as Anthrax's earlier comic book song fixation) than that's cool, but otherwise...
If you ask me, I think Naschy should direct an Opeth video! This band's operatic, grandiose style really reminds me of Waldemar Daninsky's turbulant life in Naschy's films. I'm particularly talking about their STILL LIFE album. Man, wouldn't it be PERFECT if Naschy did a video for a particularly sorrowful and haunting Opeth song that was like a mini movie featuring Waldemar? Alas, I guess I'm just dreaming, but I DO KNOW that Naschy deserves better work than this! |

Guys, I know nothing about ANY of these bands. I'm so far back, I'd like Naschy to appear in the next Moodies Blues video.... "Nights in Black Satin." (Have the Beatles broken up?) I have, however, seen the artwork for one of Necrophagia's discs and did approve of the use of Coffin Joe.
I will also be posting pics from the Naschy shoot on the Necrophagia video. Mirek |

I also love OPETH, Ministry88! My favorite album is "Blackwater Park", but did you hear the recently released "Damnation"? It's pure beauty, no death growls, no heavy guitars nor riffs, just laid-back, ultra-emotive music with some Hammond sounds in the mix! It actually reminded me of many Italian soundtracks from the 70's. I met these guys here in Florida a year or so ago, while covering a local show for my magazine. They are extremely nice people, and both the drummer and the bass player are from Paraguay, so we all spoke Spanish. They were so desperate for some sun (they all live in Sweden) that they asked me if I could take them to the nearest beach! So off we went... It was so weird to watch these guys, whose music is so dark and opresive sometimes, just having a blast on the sand... Bizarre, very bizarre... but I have pictures to prove it!
Necrophagia may not be the best band in the world when it comes to "necro death metal", as they call it (and their videos are terrible, I agree), but Killjoy is a very nice guy to talk to and to read, and most of his other bands are actually interesting (did you hear Eibon?). Anyway, nice to hear somebody else likes Opeth on this planet. Do you know a band called Morte Macabre? They are friend's of Mikael Akerfeldt (singer of Opeth), and they also play in well known progressive bands like Anekdoten and Landberk. They released an album called "Symphonic Holocaust" in which they cover songs from cult soundtracks such as Fulci's "City Of The Living Dead" and "The Beyond", "Cannibal Holocaust", "Beyond The Darkness", and even "Rosemary's Baby". The results, in all cases, are memorable. |

Ulver is cool. I troo like the more atmospheric, gothic style Black Metal. Naschy actully would be cool in a Dimmu Borgir, Moonspell, or even a Mercyful Fate video!
WHat about Dismal Euophony? I think the adoption of Euro horror into Grind Core/Death metal is such a waste. Yeah, I know there are fans of that stuff, but all it is pure testosterone with a bunch of drunken muttin heads (no offense to the fans of this style of music, being I was once one of those drunken muttin heads as a teen), but Black Metal has so much more to offer and works really well, hand in hand with the whole Euro Horror genre. Especially the progressive Black Metal that crosses over into Goth and Industrial. I mean, the cool thing about a lot of the older Naschy flicks was the whole goth atmosphere that surrounded them. That with a symphonic feel to the films, that Black Metal definitly does carry. I could definitly see Naschy in an Opeth video. |

When it comes to metal... | ||
|
...i'm usually strictly 80s. I LOVE classic bay area thrash and speed metal like Megadeth, Metallica (before the Black Album of course!), Exodus, and Flotsam and Jetsam. I also love all of the New Wave of British Metal like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard (yes, they are NOT a hair band!), Saxon, etc. Every once in a while I'll branch out with the melodic stuff (Opeth, In Flames, Soilwork), some death (Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Carcass, Deicide), or some good ol' mid-tempo metal like Dokken (why are they lumped in the hair band category? George Lynch is a smoking guitarist!). And of course Faith No More, but they are hard to categorize! But I really can't stand doom metal like Sleep or Sunn(o). Blecch, it's just feedback for chrissake
Sorry, haven't heard of those bands you mentioned Esteban! Not too adventurous when it comes to Metal. |

I like the Phil Anselmo part of Necrophagia, but I agree that other bands would have been better for Naschy. The Opeth recommendation is great !

Hello fans of Naschy.
Ive readed some messages at this forum. I would like to thank everyone who support Naschy, Necrophagia and the classic horror movies. I think extreme Metal is a great music and I have no differences into Death Metal, Gothic, Grind or Black Metal... Naschy is perfect into a video of any of these genres. Ive worked with him at the Necrophagia clip-video and I have to say that was the best filming session in my life. He also enjoyed too. Regards from Spain. Jose Moral. |
