No contest: THE DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT by Luigi Batzella. I'll paste in one of my essays on it below. But I am staking my claim: THE DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT is the BEST Vampire-themed movie ever made, hands down.
Not the most popular, most influential or most highly critically acclaimed, but the BEST as far as encompassing everything that the genre implies, and redefining the form to fit it's own ends. OK, maybe Freddy Mercury is a little annoying in dual lead roles, but it is also one of the most entertaining films ever made regardless of genre, with a fabulous musical score that plays an important role in the telling of the story, a deliciously sexy villainess in Rosalba Neri's Countess Dracula, that great big Vampire Monster Hoss/Igor guy with his bucky beaver fangs, and the BEST CLOSING SHOT EVER from a vampire movie, with the hand worming it's way out of the grave & clutching the talisman as the closing credits roll. Just thinking about it sends chills up my spine.
Give me your competition and I will KNOCK IT DOWN in a good-natured public discussion about what YOU think is the best fanger ever. TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT!!
