Lucky me! Upcoming Hammer double-feat in Chicago |
Lead | |
|
I was poking around online and Creepy Classics has a post from someone talking about a double-feature from last weekend I didn't go to -- Teenage
Frankenstein & Teenage Werewolf -- at a local theater in Chicago. The best part, which I hadn't heard about til today, was that June's double-feat
will be DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS and VAMPIRE CIRCUS! I'm really looking forward to seeing these on a movie screen, and they will also be film prints,
too. If anyone from the area is reading this, here's the site (sans info at this point for the Hammer doub-feat): http://www.hopetunnel.org/portage/index.html

Nice! You're a lucky man, Ben. I don't think I've evern seen DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS on the big screen. Interesting pairing of older and
newer Hammer.

you know bgart I spent the first 28 years of my wretched existence in the Chicago area, actually Elgin, Ill. and your news of horrorfests back there make me
quite homesick at times. I have told myself that if my marriage should fail I would move back home for good; cold weather and all. My son leaves for his
military call in August and after that I haven't much left here in Arizona to keep me here. Especially if my wife and I split. So who knows, maybe one day
we could visit and actually catch one of these fests together?

Hombre, if you move to Chicago look me up! Don't know how the future of cool movies will go, but ya never know!
And regarding tonight's double-feature...phooey!!! Turned out to be video projection of the AB dvd of DPoD (gave me a headache, to say the least). VC was also video projected from a dvd (probably from the Brit dvd) -- looked better, but still crap. A shame, it really could've been fun. And too much of the crowd was laughing at the wrong (and right times) of DPoD. I know there's some intentionally funny stuff, but nothing, NOTHING Dracula does in that movie is supposed to be laughed at, dammit! Kee-rist!! I left after the opening scene of VC, btw. My head hurt too much and I was too disappointed to stand it any further. On the plus side, it looks like they'll have a 35mm print of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS next month, with Kevin McCarthy in attendance, no less. And, HOUSE OF WAX, showing next weekend, will also be from 35mm. Ben |

That's too bad, bgart. Yeah if it ever came down to me moving back there, most definitely I'd drop ya a line. they still do Fango cons in the burbs
there? I flew back to the Chicago area for one that featured the great Bruce Campbell in the early 90's and it was a tremendous amount of fun. I
haven't been to one since and really regret missing Paul Naschy's appearance last year in L.A. Oh and though I have already stated this here before,
for the record I did see Dracula Prince of Darkness on the big screen, actually it was a drive-in theater called the Cascade I believe off Lake Street/Route
20, when I was a little one. To this day I could not comprehend anyone laughing at this film. For shame!
