I would probably worry more for the logistics of a "tree" and obviously the faith/devotion of those participating. Like a chain letter, once it is
broken the rest might be screwed.

I think the tree idea is a good one among a small group of friends, but I'd think it would easily fall apart in a wider circle. I know for me it's
sometimes ridiculously difficult to follow through with some commitment like that. Then, too, it could be that the guy or couple of guys at the top of the tree
give everything, but don't get much back in return, except the profuse thanks of the people below on the tree. For myself, I would much rather deal with
trades or outright sales (if they are not too costly).
I also have to be frank here. I'm trying to set up something on the Naschy site that will pay for the costs of maintaining the site and the Latarnia site, costs that at this time, while certainly not excessive (total about $50 total), do chip away at whatever limited expendable income I have. The Amazon.com links I have generate, in a good month, about $5 a month, so that's not enough to have either site pay for itself. Mirek |

Okay, this eMule thing. I've downloaded now a couple of films, but my problem is that I can't burn them onto a CD, as they contain too much MB, and
I don't have a DVD burner. Is there a way around this without acquiring extra hardware?

well first off, Mirek I am shocked that you don't have a dvd burner! That would easily be remedied for about $40 and a freeware dvd burning rom from the
net. With regards tothe files, there probably isn't much you can do except to possibly split the film onto 2 cds, which really isn't desireable. Before
I had a dvd burner I use to make a lot of vcds that were split over 2 to 3 discs. Qulaity was horrible and what a pain in the ass switching discs! Try looking
for some freeware that possibly could compress the fil enough to put it on one disc. afterdawn.com has some wonderful advice and links to this kind of stuff.

I have heard lots of good things about AutoGK for resizing AVI files and many other video conversion needs.
I've never used it, personally, but it's free and may be worth a look.

I have heard of this too and I believe afterdawn.com has a manual on how to use it. Problem with the whole process is that you are reducing the size of a file
that is already compressed from a much larger file, so I am sure quality of the image will be impacted even more.

If you want to convert an avi or whatever to a dvd, for keeping, there are ways to do it well with freeware. Mirek, I can link you to info if you'd like.
Takes usually at least 6-8 hrs, but can generally look really good.

Easiest way I've found is using FAVC and/or Avi2dvd. FAVC seems to be more reliable for me over the last couple of months, but Avi2dvd is more helpful when
it comes to de-interlacing certain avi's. Check out these links for directions, etc...:
Avi2dvd: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Avi2Dvd FAVC: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/FAVC Both make it easy to add subtitles, too. I'm not sure which one uses which format of subs, but it's not too hard, if you can figure out stuff like this. Also, you can convert the avi to PAL or NTSC if you need to, or you can leave it in its original format. With FAVC, it will automatically make a 1.66:1 film into 16x9 for you (adds black bars to the sides during the conversion). With Avi2dvd, you can choose if you want a 1.66:1 movie to be 16x9; it normally automatically chooses it for you, though (but you can change it). And, when it comes to choosing the quality, I would say go with "Best", which can make the conversion take longer, but it will look better (goes 2 passes and uses "more" whatever during the conversion). If you want the dvd for keeps, go the "best" route. Email me, Mirek, if you have more questions. Ben |

That's great, but he still needs a computer DVD writeable drive in order to do anything with those programs, unless those programs allow you to create a
Video-CD. You said that you only have CD burning capability at the moment, correct Mirek? If so, then as a temporary solution (if you don't have
TV-output on your videocard), you will have to shrink the files down to a size that will fit a CD-R. Your best bet would be to buy a DVD-RW drive for your
computer (you can get a decent one for under $40). If your hesitant to install one in your computer, you can find external drives that connect through a USB
port for roughly the same price. Then you can use those tools that Ben has suggested to reformat the AVIs to DVD. I vaguely remember you saying in another
thread that you own a Philips DVP-642 DVD player. The nice thing about that player is that it will play AVIs and other formats, so you can simply copy 4 or 5
of these movies onto one DVD-R without reformatting them, and play them on the Philips with few problems.

When you're able to Mirek, you can get a dvd burner for as cheap as 50 dollars. I got a liteon from Walmart and it's served me well. Though admittedly,
a Walmart would be
a bit far from your neck of the woods. As far as players, I still think that if you pick up an old xbox, you can get them for about 50 dollars from a game store or pawn shop, and do a really simple software hack, you can install xbmc and have one of the best, and most versatile media players ever. Just can't do HD, because of the lack of horsepower. I've used TMPENC and avi2dvd, and they've worked quite well, with Nero for burning a DVD compliant disc.

Anyone want my old disc? I got my replacement and I haven't had the heart to chuck the defective one. Might make a cool coaster, I guess.
