I don't know what you guys were expecting! It's no NEKROMANTIK, but it doesn't try to be. It's not about the gore or the violence, it's about the disturbing theme and aura of the feature. I don't think this film had any kind of hype surrounding it, but if it did, I feel it did live up to it. The embalming scene is still very disturbing all these years later, the male and female nudity will still raise eyebrows, and the surprise ending is perfect. Yeah it doesn't pile on the gore, but considering that this film could never be remade in the U.S., scene-for-scene, without being sliced by the MPAA, I think that speaks pretty strongly for how well-done and horrific it really is. A very entertaining and well-made 70s horror film! Squonk, violence can be shocking, but the execution of this queasy subject matter makes up for the lack of grue.

Note: Please, show your support of the exploitation genre and the little guys by BUYING it, not RENTING it, and if you must rent it and end up liking it, BUY it thereafter. If we don't show independent companies what we want with our cash, we simply won't be getting any films like this on the market. From the sounds of it, it's good that the Code Red guys didn't spend a fortune doing scene-by-scene restoration as they had planned because the sales for Media Blasters on this title have been pretty poor thanks to Netflix. I'm glad MB did clean the film even more, as they could afford to, but at this rate, they won't get their money back, it seems.
