On June 25th, both "Frankenstein" and its sequel were re-(etc.)released in France. By "released", I mean a national re-release, in several
movie theaters (three in Paris). And "The Invisible Man" is scheduled to appear in next August. A great tribute to James Whale, and enthusiastic
reviews in practically every magazine, newspaper, or French website. Three new posters were printed.
For "Frankenstein", it was originally released in France in 1932, perhaps (I'm not sure) re-released in the late 1940s, then in 1958 (when I saw it in Paris), and finally this year, just fifty years later.
"Bride" was released in 1935, 1946, 1967, then this year.
And the previous releases of "The Invisible Man" were in 1933, 1957.
For younger people which only saw these masterpieces on TV, via cassettes or DVDs, these new releases are a revelation. All the prints were restored and are as beautiful as they were almost 80 years ago.
