There were no "liberals" in Iran under the Shah, at least not on either side during the revolution. His was a vicious, greedy, illegitimate
dictatorship, ruled by fear (via SAVAK and their torture chambers), Stalinist in the most ridiculous sense, the imaginary "Peacock throne" graced by
his malignant little ass-- but papered over by the encroaching Westernization of the country in every way, including the destruction of a lot of not-so-awful
Islamic ideals, like keeping women covered lest strangers get turned on (and there are other threads here that cover that topic. Yes, we DO get turned on,
guys.).
Opposing him was the equally harsh and repressive hard line of the embittered Ayatollah Khomeni, who grew to loath all things even semi-western, and particular US-made, since it was our country which overthrew Iran's elected president in 1953, trained the Shah's army and his sadistic secret police, and drained the country's fortunes to buy decades worth of more armaments from us than that nation would need to fight six world wars. Who's "conservative" and who's "liberal" in that? Nobody. They're all radical, oppressive, anti-democratic and unmoving. And now-- seemingly without any help from our CIA-- the people of the country themselves have had enough. We won't topple the "revolutionary" government any more than we toppled the USSR... it is imploding from within, corrupted by its own excess. |

The family next door to me are Catholics from Iran. They liked the Shah better. I ain't saying, I'm just saying. Just throwing it out there.
You know President Carter gets a lot of heat over the fall of the Shah. However, I'v also read that he was a guy that burned a lot of bridges and tried to reconcile too little too late. Legeend says that one Orson Welles' movies is loked up over there in Iran. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN was at one point supposed to be filmed in Iran. |

Thank God George Bush liberated Iraq so, instead of relying on Saudi Arabia, we have a stable base in the region from which to take action if we need be. Rather like, in the Pacific, the US "island hopped" and advanced along the Asian mainland to position ourselves for action against the Philipines and later Japan itself if she refused to surrender. The idiocy never ceases to amaze me. |

He and his cronies overthrew a dictator, Saddam Hussein -- with whom they'd been in league with for decades-- who'd been selling oil to keep his beleaguered country afloat after, at our encouragement, he spent ten years waging war against our "enemy," Iran, for which we supplied hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of weaponry, including poison gas-- and then, encouraged by Bush I's emissary, proceeded to invade Kuwait (which was illegally slant drilling oil in Iraqi territory)-- only to have his ass handed to him on a platter and sanctioned internationally, isolating the country financially so he could not rebuild the country's infrastructure (and pissed away a crapload of dough on statues of himself in the meantime)... then had the gall to sell oil at less than OPEC prices to the few countries who would buy it, which of course p.o.'d the greedy bastards who controlled the rest of the monopoly... So this drooling dunderhead Bush-- oh, yes, he read about 16 books a week...oh, puhleeze, even elsa doesn't claim that, and he works in a library, for chrissakes-- who, with his misguided neocon fathead friends, decides on DAY ONE OF HIS PRESIDENCY that he was going to war with Iraq (long, LONG before the useful excuse of 9/11)... So on the basis of dummied up evidence and "inside tips" from known thieves, embezzlers and liars, they invade, kill assorted tens of thousands of people including several thousand of our own people, utterly destroy the infrastructure, insipidly blunder through an occupation by appointing neocon loyalists to high-paying positions as political payoffs rather than experience, piss away untold billions into jackbooted private armies (which, lawless as they are, caused much of the trouble in the occupation)... And if one wants to examine that inane "island hopping" analogy of his logically... What part of that great, grand strategy involved leaving the "island" of Afghanistan UNSECURED in the "rear"? MacArthur knew that New Guinea had to be completely SECURED before "hopping" onwards to the Philippines... Team Bush II utterly blew it by moving on to Iraq long before the fight in Afghanistan was won.* Vital resources, troops, and equipment that would've meant all the difference to victory were stupidly diverted to the War of Choice against Saddam. * Which it still hasn't been, of course. Because we went into Iraq. |

Well as indicated earlier..liberal word defintions are hard to keep pace with. Saddam Hussein.........victim. We now learn that.........though they object to
every military action taken by Bush, they would have prefered..instead of getting the Iraqis and the Iranians to maul each other in the 80s, US troops should
have been sent in. Just like in Afghanistan with the Russians. Supplying the Afghan Freedom Fighters with weaponry to liberate themselves was BAD. Apparently
those who did everything to bring about the Communist conquest of Indochina now..retroactively wanted the US to fight the Soviets head on???
Truly Liberal word definitions and their own positions are so mercurial and so ever changing that it is impossible to follow. Though it does seem to be always.........ALWAYS to the advantage of the enemies of freedom and the country. So maybe they ARE consistent after all. |

George Bush liberated Iraq? As our combat troops prepare to pull out of that sh@thole country, the bombs continue to go off and democracy is about as secured
as a porn shop in North Korea. Bush did nothing but make one lousy decision after another in his two wretched terms in office and will go down as the ultimate
yahoo to ever successfully manipulate the general public of the U.S. into electing his for two consecutive terms. NOTHING positive at all came out of the Bush

To wit: The Dems tried to subvert the Constitution by stealing the 2000 election. Bush stopped them cold. He then was stuck with the onerous task of handling
everything Bill Clinton did not do thus by his every decisive action he rubbed salt in the wound that is the Liberal soul.
Libs felt towards George Bush in 2000 exactly as they feel now. What happened in between is completely beside the point and superfluous. Libs hate Bush with a white hot hate because they have to. To do otherwise would mean confronting their blind support of the Rapist in Chief and his criminal administration and their acquiesence in the 2000 attempt to destroy Democracy and the Will of the People. It means confronting 9/11 and 3,000 people slain by a man Clinton could have stopped. It means opening a front in the War on Terror that need not have been opened if Clinton had done his job during the eight years he had to do something. As long as they chant over and over louder and louder that Bush is Hitler then they never have to confront their own actions and their own terrible hypocrisy and blunders. Bush Hatred is now and must ever be an intricate part of the Liberal Concept of Self and everything must be funnelled through that procrustian bed. Hence the utter inability to deal with the Moslim Barbarians because...HEY they hate Bush just like we do so they must be victims. Saddam Hussein is a victim because Bush brought him down. Even though it was Barney Frank and crew, the Fanniemay crisis must be blamed on Bush because we hate Bush and so everything bad that ever happened and ever will happen is Bush's fault. It has to be. His grandfather was one of the conspirators who plotted the overthrow the United States government in a fascist, banker-and-industry coup, and you are quite aware of that. These miserable traitors had a plan to replace the President with their own anointed military man, who then in their ugly theory, would mold the nation (under their supervision) into a tight little dictatorship ala Mussolini and Hitler. The 500,000+ "Bonus Army" of unemployed veterans was to have been mobilized as an elite Praetorian Guard ala Blackwater to enforce the new, improved dictatorship. True story? Well, the Congressional investigation believed so. It was only thanks to the courage and honesty of their selected new "dictator," General Smedley Butler, that the plan did not come about. A true patriot rather than a toady to power and money, he risked his career and life by blowing the whistle on their coup. This did not stop the assorted conspirators from throwing in with the Nazzzzzis, as you well know. Bush's beloved grandpa helped fund the German war machine not just before, but during the war, via filtering money to Thiessen and other industrial giants. The phrase "Trading with the enemy" crops up. That's illegal-- and criminal. As for stealing an election-- buddy, you didn't have friends in Broward County-- I did, people on the ground. They saw what was happening-- and it wasn't a "liberal" theft. If you can point me in the direction of any-- that's "any," as in even one-- documentation that indicates a group other than the Republican political machine intentionally and deliberately rigged, undercut and outright stole elections in both Florida or Ohio, I shall read it with interest. The acorn does not fall far from the tree.

Okay, just to make elsa happy I will agree that it is time to start bashing the latest numbskull to take office and I'll be damned, he is a Democrat!
Something as personal as my desire to puff my brains out is being threatened once more. Our man Obama has signed a tough anti-tobacco law today and it just
chills me to the core. Funny how evasive he was when questioned about his own battles with the habit, as if that is none of our business. Obviously I know that
smoking is a terrible habit and is swiftly eroding my health away, but damnit that is my choice at this point in my life! Where were these do gooders back when
any ying yang kid could walk into a Citgo Quik Mart and buy a pack of cigarettes without an I.D. for a cool $1.60 a pack? Instead of worrying about my f@cking habit why doesn't this President of ours get something signed that might facilitate me getting health insurance first and
maybe get a better job market stirred up. The ramifications of allowing the F.D.A. (a.k.a. The Government) to force cigarette manufacturers to cut out some or
all of the nasty nicotine drug from within the product could send me spiraling into a f@cking frenzy! Is this douche bag
considering all of the people who might really have serious issues with being forced to quit and how it will affect their daily lives and possibly their mental
state. Do we then go after coffee drinkers and Coca Cola lovers and force them to purchase a product that does not contain the addictive caffeine added?
It's like having your Dad say to you before doling out your punishment, "I'm doing this for your own good." Well I can accept my dad cracking
the whip on my butt, however, not a politician who will probably get the best care in the world while trying to wean himself from a drug that is as hard to

Here's a good one for ya, Hombre. About a week and a half ago, I had a training on psychotropic medications and the topic of nicotine came up. It seems
there are in fact studies (independent of the tobacco companies and government) that show nicotine and smoking may actually help severely mentally ill people
in dealing with pain and their symptoms (on top of medications that they take). And, there is even some studies being done that may lead to a medication that
includes nicotine (or some related chemical compound) that could help with their negative symptoms.
Go figure. I'd also like to insist that studies are done on this same sample about smoking, nicotine, psychotropic meds and any kind of relation to cancer. Seems to me in my experience that with all these chronic chainsmokers we deal with, so very few of them get cancer, that's why I bring it up. Maybe it's a Catholic thing. Or a Florida thing. Hee hee.... Ben
