My thoughts on Vengeance of the Zombies. |

This past week, I finally got a chance to see the 1972 Naschy film "Vengeance of the Zombies". Overall, I thought the film was good, a little
corny in spots but still entertaining. Out of Paul's multiple roles in the film I liked his portrayal of Kantaka the best, who I consider to be one of the
best villains I have seen in a Naschy film. One rather amusing thing that I noticed when I was watching the film was the train station manager who gets killed
off by Kantaka reminded me alot of actor/director Woody Allen. Did anyone else notice this?

I thought of Woody too when I watched it. I think it's a great mix of a film. The English style detective elements along with the pop-jazz soundtrack were
a nice blend with the wacko horror stuff and giallo stylings. Naschy was great.

This is still one of Paul's films that I have yet to be able to fully embrace. Exceptional cast of Naschy regulars including the always gorgeous Mirta
Miller and Aurora De Alba. It's just too weird for me in parts and the music just totally wrecks whatever appreciation I have left for the film. I hate to
say this as I am a Naschy freak. Still glad to have the fine release of the film from BCI.

I love the music. And the fisheye lens nonsense.

I think most Latarnians love the music in this one. I am the oddball who diesn't. Comes off like really annoying jazz music.

I love this movie. It's so wacky and somewhat atypical in regards to his other movies.

I love this loopy film. Great cast and nearly-surreal film. Looks great on blu-ray!

Weird film has to seen in the right state of mind I guess, I like it but doubt I'll revisit it any time soon.

Just found the naked version on Youtube in the Horror section. They also have Elvira's CDGL.

Most definitely one of my favorite Naschy films. Certainly one of his I've watched the most. I love everything about it, from the babes, to the music and
especially the weirdness. And the BCI disc is so beautiful to watch, very colorful. I never will tire of VOTZ. I wish that somebody would put out a soundtrack
album.

I love this film as well, especially the trippy visuals and dream sequences. Love the satanic ritual scene with Naschy as the Devil! The only thing I don't
like about the film is the music. While the music is cool on it's own, it doesn't fit the film at all, and really detracts from the imagery in certain
scenes. I guess in a way it adds to the films off-kilter vibe, but I couldn't help imaging a proper orchestral score under the spookier moments of the
film, and how much it would have added to the creepy factor.
Love the excessive use of extreme wide angle lenses in this one! The shot of the zombie chick leaning over the girl in the bed and coming closer, and closer, and closer is just freaky! |
