Due to time constraints this summer, I have decided to take it easy and do some cartoon watching. As such I have been watching old eps of UNDERDOG and man what a brilliant program that was. Not only did it pull the trick of being both exciting and funny but the excitement is VERY exciting and the funny is hysterical.

There is a great story called ZOT which is a planet millions of miles from Earth ruled by King Clobber---a dead on perfect Jimmy Durante impersonation--who wants a wife for his daughter Gruselda. After a major arena style battle between the greatest warriors in the kingdom--with barbarian names like Tarn, Garn etc etc and Seymour, it is decided to force Underdog--hero of Earth--to marry the...ah...beautiful princess. There is a great sequence where Underdog takes on the space fleet of Zot--that I wish Filmation would have done for their Superman animated show. At the end, just before Underdog is about to say "I do," the kingdom is attacked by a giant two headed dragon(Left head is named Irving. The right named Ralph.) and we get a terrific battle between Underdog and the dragon--the later of whom chant "Teamwork. Teamwork. Rah. Rah. Rah." when they are winning.

The animation is very good and the music topnotch. Would have been perfect for a straight superhero program.

Oh and major villain Simon Bar Sinister is a dead on impersonation of Lionel Barrymore.
