Registered User Posts: 9 Dec 1 09 5:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Ever since I began writing for Rue Morgue some 10 years ago, it has been part of my personal mandate to promote the work of Jacinto Molina at every opportunity. The biggest thrill of my career remains the interview I did with Sr. Molina in 2005. While it was only through e-mail (kindly facilitated by Sergio), I nevertheless made a personal connection with the man and was honoured to learn that he enjoyed the subsequent feature I wrote. Just this issue, there is a review I wrote of The Hanging Woman, and for an article on films not available on DVD I chose The People Who Own the Dark. It is not my final tribute. We read of celebrities passing daily, and they touch us in different ways. This one has touched me like no other. I am truly saddened. My sincere condolences to Sergio and his family.

So much so that it took me a while to post here about it. I have to say that I never heard about Molina's issues with cancer and the morning news was a huge blow to me. As a person who had someone within the family that went thru cancer, this news has really bumed me out. Unlike the few people in the industry who made horror films, it always seemed that Jacinto Molina was the most passionate about the genre and it clearly shows in his work. And the fact that he was able to do what he wanted to do, and that is make horror films, is the main reason why I will still salute the man. I didn't get into his work until the late 1990s, but when DVD took off and offered some of his films on the format I went for them like no tomorrow. Even in some of his less-than-pristine work, you can still see the passion and the admiration Molina had for the genre. My deepest sympathies to the Jacinto Molina's family and friends. RIP, Jacinto.

I knew next to nothing about Spanish horror in general or Naschy in particular until I discovered the Mark of Naschy website and the Latarnia Forums, and I received quite an education. Since that time Naschy has become one of my favorite "monster actors", and I have accumulated an entire shelf of Naschy tapes and DVD's, providing me with many hours of viewing pleasure. This was a great shock to me as I had no idea that he was suffering from cancer . Thank you Senor Molina for providing me , and countless others with your film legacy! It was for the 2th Festival of Fantasy and SF Movies, at the "Palace" theater (an ancient music-hall, and the place where I had seen "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" during its original French release in 1956). Paul Naschy was one of the guests, and two of his (then) recent movies were presented: "Count Dracula's Great Love" and "The Hunchback of the Morgue". As one of the organizers I had seen the movies before, so I was just in the hall of the theater when I saw Paul Naschy, alone. Apparently he was a little afraid of the audience's possible reactions to his movies, he was a little nervous. We talked together for almost one hour, in a café near the theatre. When we returned to the "Palace', the movie was practically ended, and we heard frenetical applause coming from the audiences. He was like transfigured. And - as you perhaps know - he won the Great Prize as Best Actor for his role in "The Hunchback of the Morgue", and was applauded by standing people. Certainly one of my best "souvenirs"... Not only he was a very good actor but a wonderful human being. Many moviegoers are sad this evening... My sincere condolences to his family.

I regret I never got to meet him in person,but am very glad I got to send him greetings via Facebook. To let him know how much I enjoyed his films ever since seeing FRANKENSTEIN'S BLOODY TERROR on the drive-in screen such a long,long time ago. Stars like Paul Naschy can never be replaced. He was a passionate craftsman and a unique personality in the world of Fantastique. He was certainly the King of Spanish horror since the late 1960s and he will be missed. I asked them to include him in the memorial montage that is part of the Academy Awards ceremony each year. I certainly hope they will consider it.

I've recently been getting more into Spanish cinema, but knew of Naschy for years. In my recent months I've been doing more research on the man and have quickly been honored to count myself as a fan of his. My thoughts immediately turn to his family and friends with their loss, my heart goes out to you with this sad passing. To his fans I share the sorrow because he was truly a pioneer, hero, and fan to the films he made and inspired. While it is a small voice, I thank him for so many hours of entertainment and years of dedication to his art.
