Kind of a newbie here on these forums, but at 21, I'm a rather big Naschy fan, despite having only seen about 4 or 5 of his films. When i was little, my dad bought me this video tape called "The Wolf Man: A Cinematic Scrapbook" that had the trailer for "Frankenstein's Bloody Terror" in it. The vibrancy, the whole beat up look of the film itself, the vampire and that nifty werewolf make-up really hit me, and lets not forget that glorious title! It always stayed with me in a way, whether I knew it or not. A few years later, i found a VHS copy of "Fury of The Wolfman", thinking it was something else for some reason, and never made the association(i was still young) and enjoyed that as well. Only within the last 4 years or so have I become fully appreciative of the work of Paul Nashcy. I guess it started when "Frankenstein's Bloody Terror" finally came out on DVD, ending a search for a bootleg copy(though i'd kill to see it in Spanish). Seeing that film in it's entirety was it for me: The beat-up transfer, the vibrant colors...just how I remembered it. It brought me back that astonishing feeling I got when i first saw it as a child. It was such a joy to watch. Then i tracked down Curse of The Devil, and Werewolf Shadow(the Cinematic Scrapbook video also had the trailer for this film only as Werewolf vs The Vampire Woman and remember the shock I felt, as a 5 or 6 year old seeing a guy get his throat bitten out. And that scene where Countess Wandesa and Elvira cut Genivieve's throat with the dagger...and that scene of Vampire Elvira with her hair blowing in her face as she moves it away to reveal her fangs...SCARY!!). Both movies I just adored.

Now I'm a student film-maker in college and Nashcy's films are an integral part of who I am. It's Naschy's incredible dedication(something i've rarely seen matched) to his art that never ceases to inspire me to keep going. No matter how lackluster a film of his may have been, it's the fact that he put his all into it and never let anything get in his way. He made incredible films. I only discovered he passed away a few hours ago and it hit rather hard. I had no idea he had cancer either, with came as even more of a shock. He will be missed. Horror has lost a true icon.
