Registered User Posts: 1416 Dec 16 10 7:29 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes, unfortunately, it's true - Jean Rollin passed away yesterday in a hospital where he was since five or six weeks, diagnosticed with terminal biliary cancer. This has been confirmed by Jean-Pierre Bouyxou and Alain Petit which were among his closest friend, an I had a phone call this morning with Alain Venisse, another common friend. Jean is survived by his wife and son. This is the sadly defunct movie theater, the "Midi-Minuit" - during the original release of LA VAMPIRE NUE. Most of us awaited at the terrasse of the café for the next seance, in the Fifties, Sixties and early Seventies...

Let's not make a habit of this, folks. Jean Rollin's astounding films revealed many things to me, not the least of which was the undisputable fact that horror and art are not mutually exclusive terms. RIP, Monsieur Rollin.

Xploited still has LIPS OF BLOOD in stock: http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/lips-blood-limited-edition-3disc-release-p-5775.html You could probably find the others elsewhere if you poke around. Redemption has released NTSC versions of some too, I think reports vary as to the quality.

His were the first French horror films, aside from LES YEUX SANS VISAGE. His vampire films, in particular, are beautiful films, full of longing, romanticism and some nice bits of humour. I first saw LE FRISSON DES VAMPIRES via Something Weird Video's VHS which was a longer, somewhat more explicit, version done without Rollin's blessing. And what a way to introduce my lovely lady friend to European Horror! We had quite the conversation afterwards, heh. Later, the Redemption DVD's finally gave me proper versions of that, the beautiful REQUIEM POUR UN VAMPIRE, and LE DEMONIAQUES. Rollin will be missed. Stills and posters for his films haunted my childhood and when I saw his films I suddenly realised that anything was possible. This is one of the saddest days imaginable. That someone with such a joyous nature and an unashamed ability to pursue his dreams and put them on film and continue even when mocked and reviled by the idiot film press. An inspiration to all of us. A terrible loss.

I think like Jago stated the artwork and photos from Jean's films that appeared in books back in the 1970's are what haunted me the most. Being a young teen and stumbling upon such erotic and atmospheric material was definitely an altering experience for myself. I think Jean had it all perfect in the way he depicted vampirism and sexuality in his films. The two seem so bound together and I am grateful that Rollin had the courage to follow through and actually depict this bond in his work. I will add that despite acquiring a few of his films via bootleg outlets back in the days of vhs, it wasn't until the internet exploded and the advent of dvd that I finally got a nice helping of Rollin to view at home. His films are rather a strange brew at times but I count myself as a fan with The Living Dead Girl probably being my favorite along with Les Frission. A sad day. Smoke and a Coke!
